Mexican Black hatchling is a musk machine!
My hatchling MBK musks me like crazy every time I handle it. Without fail the tail starts vibrating then the musk comes flying out. For a little snake it sure does produce a lot of musk. Hope it stops doing that soon! Anyone else experience this with their MBK's?

Re: Mexican Black hatchling is a musk machine!
I used to breed king snakes years ago. The hatchlings for the most part showed defensive behaviors quite often. I never bred the Mexican blacks, I had mostly the California king morphs, speckled kings and desert kings. They do grow out of it as they age. From what I hear, the Mexican blacks are a more calm species overall as they age and put on size.

Thanks Albert. I also have a hatchling Brooksi kingsnake and it musks me sometimes as well. It's nothing compared to the MBK though. Hopefully it will grow out of it in due time.

My mbk did the same thing but over time and once he got used to me, he's pretty chill. But like most snakes, he does get a bit crazy some days

Re: Mexican Black hatchling is a musk machine!
I keep a Arizona mountain king now bc they are to me , the most docile species of kingsnake out here. They are a smaller version but there have been individuals reported to be in the 5 ft. range. I am going to be in the market for the hypo gene in the Arizona and begin a breeding project this fall.
