Introducing Yzma
Officially introducing Yzma, she weighs in at 379g and about 40". As usual she tries to flee in her cage when I pick her up but is very calm in my hands, doesn't move around a whole lot. I found the picture of her on the towel funny even though she was placed on the ground she was still wrapped holding onto my wrist like a security blanket. I'm becoming happier and happier with getting her, I often see her out and about in her cage despite working a lot lately I walk by and she is out often and she always eats.
I did have one question, I was told she was about 10yrs old is this a normal size and weight for a female king? Previous owner fed her bi weekly to "make her less active". Is it possible this stunted her? Or with proper feeding she'll catch up? I don't mind if she grows more or stays this size I'm just curious.
Anyway here are some pics I snapped with my DSLR to try and show her off a bit.

Re: Introducing Yzma
Very nice striped Cal King Blaze. She's a sexy beast!
She seems a little small but nothing to worry about. My 3 y/o male is about 525g. My 3 y/o female MBK is about 740g. Your girl will probably thicken up a bit if you put her on an 8-10 day feeding schedule. That's about how often I feed my kings these days.

Re: Introducing Yzma
Thanks for the tip, she is fed about weekly and smashes rat pups. She coils for a long time which is funny but she eats well. This was her first weigh in under my care as she was getting settled and work was busy. I'll monitor her weight and see if she packs on more. She seems to enjoy climbing after I put her back in her tank she was exploring and climbing her branch. I need to get her more climbing material and overhaul her tank.

Re: Introducing Yzma
Question are rat pups the right size for her? she isn't terribly thick but is longish. Should I be considering weans?

Re: Introducing Yzma
My kings rarely eat rats. They prefer jumbo mice and chicks. At your kings weight a weaner is probably the right size.

Re: Introducing Yzma
At 10 years old she won't grow too much longer, but may bulk up a bit more. How's her disposition? Cal kings are generally on the bitey side of the scale.

Re: Introducing Yzma
It pains me when I hear that kings are bitey. Of course some are, as with any species, but I really do think they get a bad rep. My kings are sweet as pie and they NEVER bite. The only snakes of mine that have ever bit me are my male bull snake, on his first day with me, and my newest bredli hatchling. He tagged me yesterday before I noticed he was in shed.

Re: Introducing Yzma
I agree Ziggy. I'm on king #2 and neither have ever even threatened to bite. Shoot, Pharoh doesn't even strike his food like my MBK used to. I have to just leave it with him so he can eat slowly. Amd axcording to some, Brooks are one of the biggest biters.

Re: Introducing Yzma
She never tried to bite or made any aggressive behaviour. Even moving day being transported in a car swapped, then picked up from her burying herself and probed at the store. She just curled on my arm.
At home when I pick her up she just tries to get away in the cage. In my hands she is calm, seems a bit nervous as she doesn't move around much but just kind of looks around unsure of things. I don't think she was held much and while it doesn't seem like she feels threatened by me per say isn't really sure what to do. I only hold her a few minutes at a time to ease her into it. I'm hoping that in time she'll be calmer.

I wish I had access to chicks for variety but don't I am hoping my boa will get big enough for small rabbits instead of large rats.

Re: Introducing Yzma
I wonder if it's a king thing. Pharoah is still in his hidey phase, but when I pull him out, he pretty much stays ancored tobmy thumb lol.
