Serious Question

Seriously... why do people post threads that can be answered in a 20 second google search... it just seems kinda pointless to me (& yes.. i know this thread is also pointless)

Re: Serious Question

But for the rest I think it may come down to the community wanting to hear the opinions of their own forum, and see a variety of opinions and suggestions from people who they can trust.

I know for a fact when it comes to some herps there is very little information on the net about them.

Seriously though, the 'my python just sat next to me, does this mean it's sizing me up for food?' people are just the general ignorance of the internet, you find them everywhere and there's no way to stop them.

Re: Serious Question

I think it's simply because we wanna make sure, not just find some wannabe's answer on Yahoo.

Re: Serious Question

I ask on here because people on this forum are very educated on basically every bit of info that has to do with snakes and i trust a person on this forum's judgement more than i would from someone off of yahoo etc

Because we all know every idiot has access to the internet and they all think they know everything.
I would just be happy is people learned to use the search bar on the forums they are using....... Its not just reptile people either. The same question s have been answered a thousand times on my kayak forums too.

Re: Serious Question

Thanks y'all, idk, It just irks me for some reason when I see "will aspen bedding work for..." and then 3 days later the same question is asked :P

Re: Serious Question

sirtalis, i think people just like being reassured they are doing right by their pets. when people who have a common interest agree with what you are doing it makes you feel good. not all of us are qualified to work at a zoo and our questions may be beneath some people's level of knowledge on here, but we all have something worth saying and asking. so what if it gets repeated? the reason for the forum is to learn and have fun doing it, isn't it?

Re: Serious Question

Not only that, but information changes all the time. Sometimes it's just that someone wants the most recent update in care.

Like how years and years ago, it was nobig deal to put reptiles on calcisand, and even though it's still sold in stores, that's changed and now most people don't use it.

Re: Serious Question

For me it's a question of time to be honest. Sometimes it's very generic advice I'm looking for so I'll search but if it's more specific I'll ask the question.

Isn't that what forums are for after all?

Re: Serious Question

Mostly it's exactly what's been said above. People want the opinion of snake keepers, specifically members they trust. Also, let's face it, if we left everything to Google, these forums wouldn't exist. Sounds boring lol.

I understand where youre coming from on this issue. there has been a million threads started on how to treat mites and theres a ton of info in the existing threads with all the info needed to properly treat the issue.

However that being said a new member may not know how to search that info accurately.

Re: Serious Question

And just as a brand new member, I nearly gave up entirely. For someone who has never been here before it was not easy to join. The sign up now link on the blurb on thefront page is not valid, and I couldn't get to the sign up section by inputting a username/password ( forgot your password?/want to sign up?) it just warned me I lost one of my attempts.

So if I had had a problem, I don't think I would've spent much more time searching the site I would've just asked.
