Cal king won't eat.

He's 2 years old and was fed on live mice before I received him. I got him a little over a year ago and have slowely brought him to to frozen adult mice. He is 3 feet long and has not had any issues feeding since the first few weeks I had him where he wouldn't eat. I will take some pictures in a bit and include them but the tank is 40 gallons, has a hide on both sides, one side has an under tank heater and a heat lamp, and the bedding is aspen. He hasn't eaten in over a month and i'm starting to worry, today I tried a fuzzy just to see if he would eat something small and he backed away like it was a threat to him. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try something a little bigger. Maybe what your feeding just isn't big enough for him.

Re: Cal king won't eat.

It could be the colder temps or breeding season. Neither of my kings have eaten in over 2 months now. They're acting like ball pythons . They aren't losing much weight so I'm not too worried. My 3 y/o Cal King has done this the last 2 winters but it's the first time my 2 y/o MBK has taken a food break. I'm pretty sure they'll pick back up during the spring. I'll keep offering food every 10-14 days until they're back on track. As long as your temps and humidity are dialed in, the snake isn't showing obvious signs of illness, or losing significant weight I'd wait him out. You can also try a small live feeder. Sometimes that will kick start their appetite. Best wishes.

My king is on strike right now too. Usually my ball python is on strike this time of year but she's still eating right now.

Re: Cal king won't eat.

My male hoggies haven't taken a meal the last few weeks. Probably will stretch offers to ever 2-3 weeks so I'm not waisting feeders. My BPs and Carpet are still slamming back food though.

Re: Cal king won't eat.

My king refused food last week. She is usually a very enthusiastic eater. If she refuses next week I'll space the next meal two weeks out. She refuses again and I might shut off her heat and let her be for a month or two. As long as they've got fresh water and don't lose weight they'll be fine.
