New to sSnakeSs but not new to Snakes
Figured I'd join up since I'm getting back into keeping hots, I grew up in Texas and now Southern CA so I grew up catching anything I could get my hands on, besides venomous I really like keeping Phrynosoma's (Horned Lizards). Trying to decide what my next venomous will be, and being in CA I'm not exactly sure what I can and can't buy via the internet, I don't wanna do the wild caught local rattlers like I have before simply because of parasites and other issues so I'll be snooping around.
Thanks

My ultimate dream (Herp related) is to own a Crotalus of some sort. Please post pics when you pick up your new addition. Where will you be buying from?

Re: New to sSnakeSs but not new to Snakes
Not sure I'm gonna be buying one, I'll probably go wild caught again as I can't figure out what the legality of buying venomous snakes in CA is....I did just order a nice Western Hognose and will decide what hot I'll get this summer.
Thanks for the welcome! I'll be looking around at what set up I wanna do for the hognose.

Re: New to sSnakeSs but not new to Snakes
Not aloud to own any exotic venomous in the state of California. You can keep most of the native venomous as long as there not protected. The only venomous you can buy/sell are C.Atrox morphs, other wise no native venomous can be bought or sold.... And "exotic" means anything not from the state of California so a C. atrox from AZ is no different from a gaboon viper from Africa. Of course if you have the correct permits things change.

Yup which is why I've always had C. Oreganus and C. Helleri because they're what are around here, what I haven't really understood is can I buy a captive bred Oreganus from an online seller that is in say NY? I realize I can't buy that from anyone in CA because it's illegal to sell native species in CA but the seller isn't in CA so is that legal because it's a native species to me from a seller outside of CA? I've also always wanted to own a captive bred C. Atrox but same situation, lots of sellers from other states and it's a native CA species....

Do you by chance know AZ laws and requirements? Ive only discovered that you need a permit from the AZ Game and Fish Dept, but nothing else. I know some species such as the Mohave and (I believe) Tiger are protected, but most other species such as C. Atrox you can keep up to four in captivity.

Re: New to sSnakeSs but not new to Snakes
I don't think you can buy a C.oreganus because again it's still a native species and unless it's an atrox morph it's illegal.
