Vet vs quarantine

Would a vet visit with a poop exam eliminate need for quarantine?

Re: Vet vs quarantine

I don't know the answer to that. I would always quarantine regardless.

Re: Vet vs quarantine

I personally would say no, as I don't think a fecal exam will rule out things like IBD and similar things that can take a long time to show, but I'm not completely sure on that.

Re: Vet vs quarantine

If you need to get a fecal done I would be quarantining the animal regardless. If this is a new animal you should quarantine regardless.

Re: Vet vs quarantine

I am doing a 90-180 day quarantine and was just curious because I am in the middle of moving and house fell through so I was thinking it may be easier. I expected to have the new house with plenty of room but just moved and had to take delivery of two snakes so I am in a room with 8 snakes 2 dogs a cat and a rodent I tried to get rid of. But the two new snakes are away from the old ones in locked tubs and they have been treated with natural chemistry as a precaution. no signs of anything wrong one shed and one is going blue so I think all is well.

Re: Vet vs quarantine

A vet examination does help a little, but it does not rule out everything you quarantine for. I only shorted a quarantine once, animal coming from a friend that i trusted. Had it examined and a fecal exam done, and moved it to my snake-room in only 3 weeks. But even there i still used separate hooks, and always cleaned that tub last etc. (It was a very large snake i did not have a comfortable size quarantine tub for, and i still did not feel comfortable doing it)
