Is She A Rosy Corn Snake?
I've had my corn snake for 10 years now (since she was a hatchling) and I've always been under the impression that she is a normal. Recently at Repticon, a breeder saw my snake in my hand and eagerly asked to take a look at her. He immediately told me that she isn't a normal but instead a "rosy." I've never heard of this color on a corn snake but he seemed pretty excited about it. He stated if I breed her with another "rosy," the offspring will come out in black and white.
Anyway, I just wanted to get an opinion from everyone on your thoughts. Her belly is a very nice and vibrant orange color and only the upper portion of her underside is black and white. I will try to get a picture of her underside soon (it's too late right now and I'm tired lol).
What do you guys think?
By the way, the smaller corn snuggled with her is my friend's butter.

Re: Is She A Rosy Corn Snake?
From what I see in the picture I would say no. Wild corn snakes vary in color throughout the state of Florida. The Rosy Rats came from the upper keys, although I'm sure they are the same in the lower keys, but the lower keys are all sanctuary and it is illegal to collect there. Many rosies were collected and prized for their odd colors before all the morphs were out.
Rosy Rats (corns) have no black, they have a copper to grey base with soft orange saddles and no checkerboard on the bottom. Unless both parents are het for anery, the offspring will look normal. The rosy rats at one time were known as Elaphe guttata rosacea, but all the corns are Pantherophis guttata guttata now. Rosy or not, its a nice looking corn.

Taking your snake to a reptile expo is a risky move. Especially carrying it around in your hands. That's just asking for diseases and mites.

Re: Is She A Rosy Corn Snake?
I think he meant "Rosy rat snake" which used to described a group of snakes native to the keys. However, they are now considered a true corn snake and called a Key corn snake. They tend to have a grey to sand colored background and a natural hypomelanistic appearance. Also, I'm pretty sure the guy has no idea what he is talking about, because Keys corn snakes are a locality/wild type and wouldn't produce an anery(unless they were het for the trait). He may have also been confusing them with with the naturally occurring anerys that seem to have an established population in Florida, as well as the wild caught charcoal and cinder morphs.

When I did some research after the show, I came across this picture. I don't think she's a rosy.

Re: Is She A Rosy Corn Snake?
I have to agree with Korban5895 regarding taking your snake to any exhibit with other reptiles. You have no idea if the other snakes there are healthy not to mention all the people who may want to touch your animal. Your call, but I would strongly advise you to reconsider this practice.

I'm surprised they let you in with your own personal animal...my local shows do not allow personal pets to be brought into the show.....
