Im new!
I came to this site with two garter snakes ( Marilyn Monroe and Shirley Temple?) and I am now getting a baby ,ball python. I dont know much about her just that its a ball python. I don't know gender, age or type. He/she will be here tomorrow. The person I getting it from was going to let it go in his back yard. I will further post info and pics. Any advice? I'm 10 years old and new to snakes (my dad owns anacondas) and could use some help

Re: Im new!
what are you planning on housing your new BP in?? they need more heat and higher humidity that garters do. but we could give better advice on how to set up if we knew what kind of enclosure you are going to be using.

Hey and welcome!
This^^^ do you have any idea what the size is? We will help you as much as we can! Read all the caresheets you can about ball pythons, if you don't know anything about the snake you are about to get... And will your dad be able to help you at all?

Re: Im new!
I got more info! It's an adult, regular, 4 ft. ball python. Has not been sexed but has spurs suggesting a male. Has a retained eye cap that is loosening and hasent eaten since October of last year. The owner said he/she is a bit skinny but not unhealthy and was over weight when he got it. My dad cant help me, this is what he says " You wanted a snake, you take care of a snake. If it dies you will learn from next time" I will be getting pics tonight, any ideas for names? I wanted something like Marilyn Monroe and Shirley temple due to that being the names of my others

Re: Im new!
First of all welcome!!
Even though i think it is important to let children care for their own pets, i think your dad saying 'if it dies you will learn from next time' Is very wrong. He is an adult. and should supervise his 10 year old child. If something were to go wrong with your pet, and he allows the animal to die without trying to help so you can 'learn something'.- i just have no words for that, makes my skin crawl. Especially knowing he has snakes himself.. I hope they were just empty words.
- I am very glad you came to this forum! Lots to read and learn, and enough people to ask questions to. I wish you the very best with your new pet!

Re: Im new!
My dad will help with knowledge and feeding, but my love is weird for him. I worry about my snakes constantly, selling my own stiff to buy them stuff, always researching them and when I got them I told the lady " I feel like you're the stork bringing me my babies", do think im weird for that?

Nah... I researched/saved 7 months before I got my BRB... I am constantly worried and ALWAYS checking temps/humidity for like a .4 rise or something like that... For my b-day present I told my mom she doesn't have to get me anything/buying presents, just allow me to get another reptile . So no, I don't think that is weird.

Re: Im new!
I would imagine a person with anacondas would be overwhelmingly helpful to other snake owners, especially his own child, but what do I know?
Keep the top covered if it's a screen top (although it doesn't sound like it is) and keep the humidity up. That's typically the biggest issue with BP husbandry.
