Bad batch of rats?

Went to a expo and my normal rat vender wasn't there so I went to another. Felt like I was cheating but got a batch of big med rats and home I went. It has been 6 weeks and 2of the 12 have gotten eaten the rest rejected. Their is nothing I can detect other than the kill method being a giant hole in the throat of each rat and the norm being co2. Think this is reason for rejection? First I thought it was do to boa breeding season but both the male and female went off. I offered a small from my normal vender and wham not a minute after the larger one was rejected.

Re: Bad batch of rats?

could it be a different substrate that the rats were raised on?

Re: Bad batch of rats?

holes in the throats? are these arnt halal rats or something?

nothing more useful to add. although if they have been bled out, then your snakes are going to be missing out on some nutrients if they did eat them

Re: Bad batch of rats?

Weird, I've actually had the same thing happen to me as well.

I would offer a nice big medium rat to one of my females, she was very interested but as soon as she got a good smell of the rat she got disinterested.
Tried feeding the same rat to a few others, same reaction. But I try another thawed out one and they go for it....makes me wonder what it is, if the rat was kept frozen for way too long like it was old stock or??

Re: Bad batch of rats?

same issue with my BP's currently allot of grab and releases from two good feeders and perfect temps. I notice that my frozen mice that I'm getting have exposed guts and my live are being spit out before being killed... thank god I'm wasting money on my varanus breeding project. I love constrictors but i think these two guys are my limit. I may be the only person that finds monitor lizards easier..lol ..go figure. I'll leave BP's to the pros and stay in my lane. trip to the vet on MONDAY
