what should I do???

So I'm in a frustrating situation. I do not want to sex my snakes by myself because I'm afraid I'll hurt them but no reptiles stores or breeders around me will show me how "for liability reasons". How am I going to sex my future babies?? It's very irritating... How did you guys learn to sex?

99% of the time you can tell when they get older. If you have to know the sex of a baby, then you're going to have to pop them

How do you "tell" when they are older?

Like I said... No one will teach me how to pop. I know how but I've never done it

Erik give your vet a call. Explain to him your plans and ask him if he would teach you how to safely sex the snakes.

You do not want to pop an adult boa. Probing is your best bet. Buy a kit and use lots of lube. Go easy and you will see you can learn it from a video. In fact I would suggest becoming experience with adult snakes before you try it with little ones but you could pop babies.

Popping isn't something you can do with babies, learn to probe.

How do you think most breeder sex babies? Popping is super easy with babies and new born.

I think popping is the method most people would say works best when the snakes are babies, as it gets harder to pop them when their muscles develop.

Re: what should I do???

I was always told never to sex babies as it can cause damage, today I learn.

For what he is 'breeding' I use this term loosely since I doubt that it will actually happen popping safely can be done right away.

The only time it can't (to my limited experience) is when you're dealing with arboreal snakes. Or others with delicate structure. Mind you my youngest Amazon was popped without any issue. Though I would probably probe them.

My amazon when he was still young was popped by a local place as well, they barely even needed to do it before they were able to see he was a male. Must've had quality hemipenes .

Like I said I was always told it could damage them, but I guess if you know what you're doing there won't be issues.

Re: what should I do???

You can damage them by probing as well if you press too hard. Its all about knowing what to do.
