Carpet Python Locale Question Concerning Argus, my Newest Acquisition

I am asking this question to anybody who can tell me, especially those of you who specialize in Morelia. I would like to know what locale Argus is. Is she an Irian Jaya, Coastal or something else?

I was told by the guy who sold her to me that he thought that she might be an Irian Jaya and to me, she looked kind of like an IJ, but I am no expert on these things, so I went with it. I have 2 other IJs, but after posting Argus' pics on another forum and then asking a friend of mine who is better at IDing these things than I am, the prevailing opinion I got was that she is pure Coastal. A lightly colored Coastal but a Coastal nonetheless. That said, is she a Coastal and if not, what locale is she? She is still young (cbb March 2011) and she's not that big yet, but if in fact she is a Coastal, how big will she get?

After comparing your pictures to some other i would say she looks like a super clean nice looking Coastal. After i looked and some more pictures of Darwin and Southwestern they are darker than yours. I think what you have is a true 100% Coastal and that why it's looks so light. Most Coastal you see now days are so from of cross with something else mixed in. That just my opinion i really like to her what some of our Carpet experts think.
Being a Coastal you can look at around 9 to 10 feet.

I'm sorry. It's only a cell phone camera and she is very shy, not to mention she loves it in there, so better pace are hard to get.

Looks like a coastal type animal to me as well.

You'll never know exactly. Most "unknown" carpets in the US are bi-products of Jag breedings these days. Anybody breeding true type animals will sell as such and the info on the lineage will be solid in most cases.

Cheers,
D

I did not get her from a breeder. The guy had to downsize his collection and I was the beneficiary of that. Everyone I spoke to since this error came up in the other forum said she is a pure Coastal.

Love the tank. My IJ would make serious use out of it, especially if it was just a bit wider. Looks like a Coastal to me but I'm not good with identifying

I may be wrong but I've heard from various sources that just like Jungles, there are many variations of the coastal carpets when it comes to size.

For the most part Southern Coastals are the monsters that grow to be that big, while northerners max out around 7, usually 6 feet.

From Nick Muttons Website

Quote:
Most specimens are smaller however and average around 7’ in length. There is a correlation between size and distribution with the largest specimens originating in the southern portion of their range from the vicinity of Brisbane. Animals from further north are generally smaller in size.

So then it depends if it a Southern or Northern? So what we need now are some in put from our Aussie members as to if there's a way to tell the difference? I could be wrong but aren't the Southerns lighter in color? I could have sworn i read that once but can find the source now.
