It finally happened (Home insurance)
So it finally happened. They will no longer insure my house with venomous snakes or any over 10'. What do I do now? Move just to keep 3 snakes? Lie to them? Cut a few feet off my burm ? ( Just kidding)...
Even if I can find the guts to actually get rid of them, where do you put a 12-13' burm and 2 rattlesnakes?  Pretty bummed about this...

My question is why is your home insurer concerned about the snakes? You'd think it would be the medical insurers who would be worried about that..

Also the liability of the heating elements possibly causing fire.

Yeah, they asses a lot of things. Oddly enough i've never had those be a problem but my fish tank light went up in flames a few weeks ago.
Also, it was extremely hard to find anyone to insure the house because of location and other factors.
Say I can find someone I think is fit to take my burm. Would you, and how would you, asses someone to be fit to take your venomous snakes.... I see lots of liability in that coming back on me...

I would have thought that they could provide cover without covering the snakes? and then you could take some kind of personal/public liability insurance out to cover anything you may be concerned about in relation to the snakes?
Insurance companies love to include exclusions to insurance policies, sounds a bit strange they would flat out refuse to take your money without considering excluding the snakes from the cover offered?

That sucks...I don't see an option other than rehoming honestly. Lying to them, if they find out could be bad for your future / finding someone to insure you (I would think).

Its because recent studies show that venomous snakes like to stuff socks into the drains and turn all of the water on full blast.
Absolutely ridiculous. I am sorry you have to deal with this crap.

Most homeowner's insurance policies will not insure the added liability of venomous snakes. A lot of them even restrict certain dog breeds..i.e. pit bulls, mastiffs, rottweiler's and the like.
Your options are pretty limited:
1. move somewhere else
2. rehome the snakes
3. stay where you are and lose your insurance coverage
If you decide to move, you will need to look for a house situation, as I do not know of any apartment complexes that would be ok with the venomous snakes. If you decide to rehome the snakes, then the Burmese must be sold within your state lines. It is currently illegal to cross state lines with one, due to them being on the Lacey Act (it's stupid, but it's the law). As for the rattlesnakes, if you can ship them here, I can find them homes with people I know well and trust.

Believe it or not the apartment complex I lived in two years ago was completely fine with it.
