Speaking of tubs

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. I'm thinking of moving my Cal King and MBK out of their glass tanks and into plastic tubs. I wanted to ask you all which tubs you recommend and where you buy them. Are they also compatible with UTH's, since I don't know how you would use an overhead light. I'm also planning on buying a custom made wooden enclosure next year when I move so is it really worth moving them into tubs at all? TIA

Re: Speaking of tubs

Good morning.

Personally, if your setup is ok I wouldn't change to a tub.

Most people use tubs because the initial cost is cheaper and they have animals that require higher humidity.

Kingsnake only require average humidity around 50%. As long as you can maintain proper heat in your glass tank and it is of the proper size for your snake, I would leave it until your are ready for your wooden enclosure next year.

BUT, if you do change to a tub I prefer the Sterilite below. These are a nice size/shape, the great thing is that they have little rectangle area in the top that you can cut out and silicon a small metal screen into if you needed extra heat.

Good thing is they are only about $10.00

I use Zoo Med UTH and have never had a issue with any of my tubs.

Re: Speaking of tubs

i switched all my animals to tubs BECAUSE i was moving. It was too expensive and took up too much space to move 6 ~40gallon tanks. I was able to sell each tank @ 1$/gallon, and bought tubs at walmart for 7$ each, with locking lids.
Im not sure the exact brand, but the tubs i bought are opaque plastic bottoms with a tan/army green lid, and a darker green hinge clasp attached to the tub portion. they come in a 27 gallon long flat size and a 36 (?) gallon deeper version, that has roughly the same footprint.
I like these tubs because the top isthree dimensional, so it fits snugly over the lip of the tub ratehr than just laying on top, so i feel that it is a little more secure for my larger snakes.
I used both a dremel and a soldering iron to make holes, and had no problems with either.

found it! sterilite 40 quart storage bin

I think UTH should be fine AS LONG AS its hooked to a thermostat.

I wouldn't bother buying new enclosures knowing that you are upgrading in the future. I would save the money and the stress related issues of moving from 1 to another. As long as the housing requirements are being met that is!

Re: Speaking of tubs

Thanks a bunch lady and gents. I think I'll stick with the vivs they're in until we get the custom enclosure next year. There's a place here called The Cage Cartel that builds really nice enclosures. Hopefully I can get what I want for $300-$500.

Mark- I hope my estimate is high. I definitely wouldn't mind spending less. I'm waiting for a quote from them now since they don't list any prices on their website. Here's a link featuring some of their work.

Yeah, I didn't think glass was that bad of an option either but I understand he's trying to sell his product. I like the custom enclosures and want a really nice display piece that houses 2-3 (or 4) snakes. Maybe something with a Roman Coliseum or Egyptian theme for my kingsnakes.

Caesar and Sasha are both in 40 gal. tanks. I'm having a custom wooden enclosure built next year that will give them the same amount of space, maybe a little bit more. Its gonna cost me more than I thought though. Lookin more like $600-$800 but I think it'll be worth it. My girlfriend vehemently disagrees.

COOL! I think 40g is a good size for adult kings. Thanks!
