Question Is there such a thing as a Pygmy Redtail?

Is there such a thing as a pygmy redtail? I love the markings and colors, but i'm not a fan of really big snakes, anything closer to CRB/BRB size with the same color/pattern?

Re: Is there such a thing as a Pygmy Redtail?

It depends on what you mean by "red-tail."

TRUE red-tails which are Boa constrictor constrictor (BCC), such as Suriname or Guyanas actually retain that red throughout most of their lives. These are among the largest Boa constrictors, often exceeding 10 ft.

The so-called "common" red-tails or Columbian boas are not quite as vivid, under the taxon B.c. imperator (BCI) are a tad smaller and come in a wide variety of unique localities. The smaller locales tend to be:
- Central American boas
-Nicaruaguan boas
- Hog Island boas
- Corn Island boas
- Cay Caulker boas

Out of these if you want something small but with true sweet color you want a Hog Island.

If you want to go smaller you can look into tarahumara's or the island caye boas (crawl or caulker cay) which in my opinion are cooler than hog island boas.

Also check out CORN ISLAND BOAS

We will probably have official 'dwarfs' of the pure BCC eventually, just needs more line breeding I guess.

Hog Islands are nice looking snakes n almost what i was lookin for - would be awsome to see a true dwarf BCC, which is what I was asking initially, should have been more specific, thanks for all the suggestions!

I guess no one is working on dwarf BCC's yet, or at least no semi/dwarfs have popped up to start working with?

Wow, that one's a stunner! Is that as large as they get?

They mature around and usually stay under 5 feet. They are basically like nicaraguans(since corn island is off of nicaragua). They are often referred to as "red nicaraguans"

I would recommend a Sonoran boa. Females top out around five feet with the males a bit smaller, they are fairly slender, they have a naturally occurring hypo morph and the leopard mutation is from pure sonarans and is killer.
