House snakes are great! They're like tiny pythons. The feeding response you described is pretty typical, and is one of the traits that attracts a lot of snake keepers.
If you do get a female down the road, I've heard these guys are incredibly easy to breed! It's basically impossible to not get eggs if you put a male and female together
