Surprisingly I've caught 2 the past 2 years. I pictured and released. I had to stop traffic to get the smaller one. Not highway traffic, but not a country road either. He's living in a good size pond now.

Not to bust your chops, but holding a snapper by its tail can do permanent damage. It's awesome that you stopped to help em though. In the future if you use one hand to grab the shell above the tail, and place the other hand on the lower carapace(bottom shell), you won't get bit and won't risk damage to the animal.
