Yes they can, Sand Boas have been known to do it quite often. My female Paradox Albino retained sperm from last seasons breeding. I wasn't thrilled at first, but now i cannot wait to see those little worms arrive

Keith Mc Peek from The Bloodline had a female Black Blood lay a clutch of eggs after not being with a male for over a year.

Back to topic. If you have costumers come up to you at work and ask if you really have a bunch of snake? When you answer yes they want to know if they could bring their kids or grand kids over to see them.

Also if after people see your collection then comment that you have cooler snakes and a bigger variety than the local zoo.

It's common. usually they retain for one breeding season, in case they do not encounter a suitable male.

A few cases of "second season" retentions have been noted (holding it for two seasons) but that's rare.
