How long to leave heat mat on?
How long should I leave my heat mat on in order for it to actually start heating? I just turned mine on like 5 minutes ago, and it still feels kind of cool, it's only slight warm in some places.
I have the biggest size Intellitemp reptile heat mat by the way, if that helps.

Re: How long to leave heat mat on?
What's the goal?
If the goal is to find its heating level your best to set it up exactly as you intend to use it then give it 90+ mins

I've always used heat lamps, and never heat mats. I just want it to start heating up, so I can then add the aspen bedding to it. How long do they usually take to warm up?

Toss the aspen on now, no worries there and the insulation won't hurt

Re: How long to leave heat mat on?
It could take 15-20 min to even feel warm and an hour or 2 to get hot.
This is why I tell people to let their viv sit at least 24hrs before putting a snake in.

I had an old Zoomed heat mat that wasn't working well. I threw it out, then got a new huge heat mat for my albino burm. Relax...

Re: How long to leave heat mat on?
The heat pad is starting to get warmer now. How well do these things work? Will they heat my burm entirely?

They get pretty hot. I've heard some can get to like 120F. I haven't had any experience with so you'll want to check it with a temp gun 24hrs after turnin it on to see what the temp is. For a burm, you'll want it around 90F so if it's too hot, you'll want to get a thermostat to control the temp.
It really depends on the size of the burm compared to the heat mat whether it'll heat it entirely or not.

Re: How long to leave heat mat on?
Not likely . I tell anyone who asks about using heat pads I say to leave it for 24 hrs before putting their snake in. This way they get the temp right so it's not off by 10° or something. So tell me how this advice is in any way negative???

Re: How long to leave heat mat on?
Just set your thermostat for the desired temp and check and adjust every 30 mins or so. The ones I use get up to temp within a couple of hours maximum

as Rob said, heat mats don't feel that hot on the hand, our body temps are roughly what our hot ends are,so you wont tell much by touch, other than its working
a mat will reach temps roughly 30 mins to an hour, depending on your room temps
cheers shaun
