Opinions?
I have a 55 gallon fish tank that doesn't hold water and I've been looking for something to put in it. I've seen several suggestions for GTPs and as good fit though I was thinking they needed more vertical. I've also seen info that they move horizontally through the trees not vertically so horizontal space is more important. What are your thoughts/ideas? Thanks for all the input

Re: Opinions?
Sorry, demensions are 48in long, 18in high, 13in deep
I was reading some other posts about babies, which will probably be what I get, that said to start them in a 10 gallon tank which I have 2 of.

Re: Opinions?
I personally would only house a GTP in an arboreal enclosure.

Re: Opinions?
Thought I would check specifically with people who have GTP about specifically putting a GTP in a 55 gallon, not looking for options just opinions on a GTP in a 55 gallon since I've heard SO many contradictory info from so many sources. Figured these guys would be the experts

Re: Opinions?
I'll preface this by saying I have zero experience with GTPS or ETBs.
In my experience, some 55 gals come standard height at 22 inches, not 18 inches, but my memory could be spotty, and some manufacturers vary with their dimensions. I know this to be true of 10-gallons, so I imagine its certainly plausible with any other "standard" gallon size tank as well.
Gathering from what I have gleaned from GTP keepers over the yrs, the issue may not be the meager shortcoming in the tank's height, but perhaps in the narrow width of the tank (only 12"). A lot of folks forget that these snakes still do move horizontally as much as they do vertically, which is why many GTP keepers start out with enclosures approx 18" x 18" for younger animals, and often 24" x 24" (or larger) for adult snakes. A 12" wide tank is not a lot of turning-around space for a 4-6 ft snake to move around, once you get all your perches and decor in there...regardless of the fact the tank is still 48" long. This is one reason I often steer clear of 55-gals in general; such a long, narrow tank is tough for landscaping for anything but the smallest of herps.

Re: Opinions?
I've got a few months before the snake will even be available. Between now and then I think I'll work with the guy at the reptile shop and see what he thinks about the 13" width. I'm probably gonna start with a baby and from what I've read it is better to start them off in smaller tanks anyway I'll probably end up with a GTP and maybe put something else in the 55 gal. like a lizard. I love having local reptile people to talk too in addition to forums.

Not sure if you have them but there's local glass places that repair aquariums where I live. It's not hard to do it yourself either.

Re: Opinions?
I was just talking to my hubby about that! It really depends on how bad the crack is.
