More Carpets!

Fedex just delivered my latest acquisitions... 1.1 2008 IJs and 1.1 2007 Striped Bredls! This brings me to 9 total carpets, and I think these will be my last until I produce some of my own. Camera is charging right now, expect pics later today/tomorrow!

Re: More Carpets!

Male Bredli. Very calm and docile.

Female Bredl. This girl's pattern is VERY clean, just wish she wasn't so undersized!

Male IJ. A little jumpy, but good temperament and color.

Female IJ. This girl is a LOOKER. She also appears to be quite hungry (lol) and very flighty.

I was really hoping the Bredli would be larger, but apparently the first owner fed them mice for the first 3 years, and the 2nd didn't feed them particularly heavy either. I will try to get them caught up and just see if they produce this season, but I'm pretty doubtful. I will update this thread with pics again once they all shed!

Re: More Carpets!

Definitely love the IJ's! Congrats, I'm jealous. I am just getting used to my new girl, but I hope to get a young one in the future.

Congrats on the new additions! That female bredli is super nice. Good luck getting some size on her.

It is actually Casey Laziks line. And the IJs are VPI.

I really like the female Bredl as well, but the female IJ is really growing on me. Every time I have opened her tub, she darts out as if to ask "ARE YOU FOOD? NO? ARE YOU SURE?" lol

Apparently they have been feeding well on F/T small rats, which is quite small for them (5-6 ft), so we'll see how they like mediums this weekend before moving them to larges in a month or so

Thank you, I'm pretty proud of my little collection

I opened the tubs to check on the snakes, and one of the IJs darted out so I just picked him up. He seemed inquisitive so I let him climb around on me. He was squeezing pretty tight so I went to put him back, and apparently triggered a feeding response. He got me pretty good on the hand, and I could FEEL his teeth digging into the bone. Not the most pleasant experience, but he let go without me needing to break out the alcohol. Also, pic is AFTER I had already cleaned it up once lol. Finger is a bit bruised and swollen today, but could be worse

Oh, dang! And that was from a little guy? Sorry to hear that! Now I'm REALLY hoping my adult doesn't bite me... Lol.

Re: More Carpets!

Great looking carpets! Nice bit too. My coastal jag. was pretty nippy when she was young. But it has been about a year since she has tried to bite me. Partially since she is getting older, larger and more confident. In addition, I have learned how to handle my carpets with out making them so nervous.

Re: More Carpets!

to me the way carpets bite first, work out if its food later,is one of their endearing qualitys

makes for a more interesting snake and helps to keep you on your toes,i love learning to read each individual carpets nature

re feeding response
i use a trickle of cold water from the bath tap,to get feeding responses to let go

that or i unhook their teeth using my other hand

an adult carpet leaves a lot of bruising when it strikes you, maybe even stiches depending where it gets you

JUST GOTTA LOVE CARPETS

cheers shaun
