I actually am trained in classical violin. I am teaching myself to play fiddle style as well. However, I lost the top part of my right index finger in a run-in with a table saw, so the number/types of instruments I can play is somewhat limited.
I found Rock Band a fun video game, and it's similarity to an actual hobby is probably the only reason I enjoy it. My fiance is an avid gamer; I am not. That means that at least a few hours out of the weekends, and usually an hour or two on weeknights as well, I am ousted from the family room because he is engrossed in a war game. I figured that Rock Band would be something I could get him to play with me, and it will probably help me with picking out and following rhythm- something I struggle with in my violin-playing.
