Heat bulb?/Brumation

Hello. My dragons light just blew so I have been looking for a new one. I have been having problems because all of the bulbs have bad reviews so I want to know what you use and like. I do not remember what I had before but I liked it but it only lasted 6 months Right now he only has a 15 watt night bulb a heat pad but Im not to worried because he is brumating. That brings me to my next question. How do I care for him during this time? He just went in to it and I know because all he does is sleep at the cool end of the tank. His temps are perfect to. I put in a huge hide and have not seen him since. This was only a couple days ago.

Re: Heat bulb?/Brumation

Best place to go on advice for brumation is beardeddragon.org.

All dragons go through it differently but they can help you get the basics down to help your little guy. My dragon never really full goes to sleep, and gets upset if I shorten her days. I deal by just setting up a very dark hide but also leaving her lights on, so she can have it anyway she wants in that particular day.

Some people I know put them in shoe boxes while they sleep so they can be completely left alone, others leave them in the tank and just keep their lights off. If they wake up at all during their sleep it is advised to bath them so they might empty anything in their bowls (though it is highly advised to make sure to get them to do that and feed them no further if you are putting them down as it will rot in their stomachs).

It really all depends on the dragon and on the forum I mention you will find people who have dealt with all types of brumation behavior.

I leave my lights on shortened cycle, make sure the temps are good and leave them alone. No food, no bath, no bugging just let them do what they are going to do.

Don't disturb him too much. Bugging them while brumating can cause stress and actually hurt them. Best to just leave him be.

The only thing you need to do is make sure the enclosure does not drop below 15C over night for long periods of time. Apart from that he does'nt even need a photoperiod.

I switch everything off when mine goes under apart from a CHE that keeps ambient temps above 15C. I have been doing that for 9 years now and the bugger still wakes up after brumation raring to go.

I only leave the lights on because mine don't go into a full brumation. Sometimes they come out for a day and bask so I leave it on so they have a choice.
