Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

Did you have to do the big drive or did you find someone locally?

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

Nah ended up taking a 2 hour drive, but as i said got a fairly big discount and it gave moose and rod some time away as well. Im just glad that it should only be 9 more injections and he is all better. How many shots do you have left??

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

She should be well on her way to recovery then. I can hardly see anything in my syringes as the amount is so small lol

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

Yeah very small amount indeed, and nope she just doesn't seem to be changing, she's still eating though so I very much doubt she is suffering in any way

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

Okay mates got another question for you. My interior cage sizes will be:
(Inches, not centimeters, )
Cage A. 57" x 13" x 19" (For corn snake)

Cage B. 45" x 18 1/2" x 23" (For Nic Boa)

The sizes are a little odd, because I am recycling old furniture and turning it into snake homes.

Question is this. What size, (Wattage) Ceramics should I buy to heat these up? Should I use one per cage, or two? I've been looking for a chart that will tell me, but so far I have had no luck.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not sure if I was just insulted or not. You can call it rabbit wire, chicken wire Hardware cloth, or fencing with little square holes. (Always thought hardware cloth was a bit odd myself, but hey, when in Rome.... or North America.)

At any rate, On my plastic cages I have have 10" holes cut out and have bolted this very same green wire meshy like stuff to it. And have my heat domes sitting directly on it with 150 watt bulbs and it has not melted. It's actually a pvc coating.

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

For cage A i would go with a 150 watt and cage B i would go with 100 watt.
I use a ceramic and a globe in my 4 x 2 x 2 so i drop my wattage on the ceramics but its up to you how want to heat it. In a 4 x 2 x2 i use a 60 watt ceramic and a 40 watt globe this gives me temps around 32-34 degrees hot end and 24-26 cool end.

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

Haha no dramas mate, as i said its up to you which way you wanna go but i like to be able to see them at night as well lol. Also temps can vary on the amount of vents you have put in as well as where you have placed them.

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

Cage A I have two round vents on each end, they are about 2" Diameter and 3" on center from each other. On the right they are 1" off the floor, and on the right they are 1" from the top, so there will be a fresh air flow, fresh air in, bad air out. But I think they are small enough that it will not carry away all of the heat. Thanks again for the help.

Re: Ambient Vs. Surface temps heating question

I have 100w ceramic in the 3 foot viv and 150w in the 4foot vivs - never have any issues reaching the temps required.
