Re: It's The Shed thread.......

If I find shes that are all stretched out nice or unroll easily I save them all.
They then get bagged up & hnaded out to kids & reptile shows & demos.
Kids tend to think that its pretty frigging cool.
Back when I used to have a lot more snakes there could be days where a dozen adult snakes shed, even then I threw away more than were kept.
They tend to piss/crap in them alot as well, which makes for an easy clean, but not a shed one wants to keep LOL THX Mark

Re: It's The Shed thread.......

Most snakes do not eat while "in blue" (clouded up phase before the skin actually comes off) and generally while the skin is peeling off in the wild they would not be actively looking for food. But I have several that will pause in peeling off their skin to chow down. They are generally very hungry when they are done shedding because it takes a lot of energy for them. I do have three snakes that will eat no matter how cloudy they are- a Macklott's python, a superdwarf retic, and a leucistic Texas ratsnake. They just want to eat all the time, any time...lol.

Re: It's The Shed thread.......

I would have to say in my experience just as many will eat in shed as not.
I have a few that will sometimes & other times no as well.
In captivity we tend to feed more frequently than required more often than not, nothing in the wild is on a weekly schedule afterall LOL
It actually never hurts to miss a feeding now & them or skip everyone for an entire week even or go 10-12 days instead of 7 etc.
Some snakes get real pissy when in shed & others gooble it up just like always.
Mark

Re: It's The Shed thread.......

That's one thing I love about reptiles, If I am too tired, I can "blow off" feeding them.

The damn mice and rats on the other hand, I have to care for every single day, or they will eat each other. no "blowing off" the rodents.
