Re: Red tail Boa and Ball Python?

Balls plus Boas? No. Not advisable to house two boas together. If the enclosure is HUGE, I've heard it's possible, but with even a small chance of two dead snakes, is it worth it?

Boas eat mice when they're small. Balls eat rats when they're big enough. It's just a matter of appropriate size of prey to predator.

Read the thread that's titled "Can They Live Together" and you'll find all the information you need.

Re: Red tail Boa and Ball Python?

It is best to start boas off on rats because that is what they will eat most of their lives. We also start ball pythons off on rats since at some point mice will become to small for them and when all is said and done rats are better for a snake then mice.

As for the housing two of them together that would be a no. I actually have pics of a boa that ate a ball python larger then itself and then regurged it.

Re: Red tail Boa and Ball Python?

Heres the link for you to go read why not http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/gener...-together.html Save me typing out a bucnh of stuff. This is what is being suggested above as reading. So the answer is NO. As far as a Boa eating mice its fine except when its 8 feet long & needs 20 of them at a time compared to a rat or 2 or a rabbit. Adult Boas require large meals & a few mice just won't cut it. It is far cheaper to feed one a rat or 2 or a rabbit than dozens of mice, not to mention much easier as well & probably healthier in the long run too. I say healthier because the fat content of 1 or 2 rats or 1 rabbit is likely far less than the amount in a couple mice. Mark

Only during breeding season if you are trying to make super balls.

Believe it or not mice and rats have about the same fat content. Here is a link to a file I posted on another forum that shows the nutrient value of prey items.

I was thinking about just turning the snake room into one large cage that way I can really have a mix of species. Hell I will even throw the snapper and sulcata in there for good measure.
