Re: New purchase - Liasis olivaceus (olive pythons)

I find it best to photograph them outside in natural light. They get that green/purple hue with the rainbow iridescence.

Re: New purchase - Liasis olivaceus (olive pythons)

Thanks for the tip - when they're more settled I'll do a photo session with them. Get a few feeds in to them first though...

Re: New purchase - Liasis olivaceus (olive pythons)

@ Danny- Congrats on the successful first feeding. As I've said before I've never kept such a food driven snake.
@TTR1- How old and how large are your Olive pair? My male came from Jeff Hartwig as well. He produces some great animals.

Re: New purchase - Liasis olivaceus (olive pythons)

Mine are about 2 years old. I would have to get a measurement on them for you when I get home. Unbelievable how fast they grow!

The olives have names!

Popeye and Olive Oil...

Will. Post some more pics soon. Moving day Thursday so may wait until they're in their new vivs.

Thanks guys. These will ultimately be a breeding project together with the scrubs but in the meantime and going to enjoy them all growing up

I agree, growing them out from babies is half the fun of keeping them.

Re: New purchase - Liasis olivaceus (olive pythons)

Finally got the first Viv done. Looking at photos of olivaceus in the wild they seem to be found on sandy soil in rocky environments. From what I've read the shelter in crevices and burrows so I have tried to replicate this.

They do like to climb also hence the branch even though aesthetically this doesn't quite work for me.

The stone is real from the local wood and the burrow is made using excavator clay just in that part of the Viv.

And as of to prove the point about hiding in rocky crevices...

Heat is a 150W che and lighting is an under kitchen cabinet florescent tube unit and a 15W 10% UV tube - currently without a reflector but i will be getting one.

Popeye (male obvs!) Is settling in well and currently just wants me dead!

Will do Olive Oil's over the coming days...

Re: New purchase - Liasis olivaceus (olive pythons)

The enclosure turned out really nice Danny. I love the stones and substrate. Nice branches too. Is your male being a little testy?

Cage looks awesome man, all these olives lately are making me really envious. That colouration and scale look is just amazing.

He was fine in his quarantine tub but now he strikes the glass if I go within so much of 3' of the Viv! Once he's out he's fine.

The girl is still in her quarantine tub and she's always tried to kill me! Again once she's out she's as calm as anything.

The substrate is pretty much a straight 50/50 mix of play sand sand top and top soil. Just guessed really but it's turned out exactly as I wanted. It's on a thin layer of hydro balls as well for drainage.

I may as some arid grasses in due course.

Cheers TB. They're fabulous snakes to own so far - really enjoying them.
