What snake is this?
Hey guys I found this snake at night in my house eating a large frog I caught him afterwards he seems quite tame I really want to keep him, does any one know what type of snake it is ? I live in mexico and its really hot climate.

I'm thinking that the head shape on this snake is very suspicious. I can't seem to determine if this is venomous or not but I would be reluctant to hold him until I was sure. Be careful. He may seem tame bc he is a juvenile and just ate a frog.

It's hard to tell front head on but th pupils look big and round and I'm thinking one of the water snakes. I'm sure someone with a better eye than I will chime in soon.

BTW Guys he has cat-like eyes , no round pupils also no vissible front fangs..

The fangs may (if venomous ) be retracted or it could be a rear fanged reptile. I'm thinking it may be a juvenile water moccasin. Don't handle it until it's definitively id'd.

Where in Mexico are you? It would help narrow down the search.
Please be very careful until you know what type of snake it is. Just because you can't see fangs doesn't mean they aren't there.
Highly doubt it's a water moccasin. The markings look all wrong.

To me it looks very much like a species of Cat-Eye snake (Leptodeira), but hard to pin down which one. They are venomous.

Definitely not a water moccasin, I'm not familiar with Mexican snakes but I would be inclined to guess it's a cat-eyed snake species as well...

I agree with Pareeeee. *IF* it is Leptodeira septentrionalis, it is a rear-fanged venomous colubrid. Don't panic--the venom is pretty mild and you have to let them chew on you to get a good dose. It causes pain, swelling, bleeding, bruising and blistering but won't do you serious harm unless the wound gets infected or you have an allergic reaction.
So don't be overly frightened, but were I you I would let the little one go free in a safe place and consider purchasing a more user friendly species if you would like to have a pet snake.

That is a banded cat eyed snake. It is mildly venomous.
