newb status

can you give me ideas to help me make my snakes setup more comfortable/sophisticated. in both setups i use newspaper for substrate i find its easy to cleanup and cheap. i have one heat lamp per tank (two) 100 watt for my royal and 150 for my corn snake both have bowls that they can soak in although ive only seen my corn snake doing it and they both have hiding spots 2 for my royal and one for my corn and they both have a warm and cool side to their tanks. plz also tell me about your setups im new to this world and wish to know everything. XD

what kind of lid do you use is it mesh or a better kind of lid

for a corn mesh should be fine if you want to use it as they dont require a very high humidity level... as long as you can keep it warm enough.. heres my corn setup x

You're already behind the eight ball with keeping your ball python in a fish cage and using a heat lamp. Both are counterproductive methods of husbandry for that particular species.
If you choose to keep the fish cage and the heat lamp, you're asking for tons of issues.

well atm its the best i can do. its hooked up to a mister and a timer and it keeps the temps and humidity just fine until i can find a less high maintenance/ more suitable viv

so you never gave me a suggestion you bashed my setup told it was wrong and that was it. MAYBE if all you so called "vets" actually explained why it was wrong and what to do to fix it maybe people wont "not listen to you" i'm a very new member to this forum and all thats happend since i joined was my setup getting bashed on over and over and only a very few select people actually helping me IM TIRED OF IT its so lame that called "help" when all you do is tell me im wrong and get pissed when i tell you my situation. do yourself a favor and just calm down because if you tell me im wrong im not going to understand/believe you because i have no facts either known or given to me that suggest otherwise until you actually voice what is wrong

Most likely when he does score the new set up he will proudly post his accomplishments here. (At least I hope he's still around to show those pics off)

I have been following this young mans posts and it is apparent that he is "green around the edges" not only in animal husbandry but also with using forums. This will improve with time and already is.

Being a father to several children has taught me patience, and as time goes on JR will learn not only better care of his critters, but also learn the quirks of forum interaction.

So far he has been "seasoning" and adjusting to the multitude of personalities who are active on this forum.

So please can we refrain from shunning off those who will "get it" and learn.

I have been involved in forums since way back when Yahoo groups were the rage of the day and keeping snakes for years, But I still learn things every day here, not only about the animals but about human behaviour and social interaction.

I know just by the way a lot of the members here speak that a lot of us have been posting on forums and user groups for a long while.

I'm almost reasonably sure most of us were 18 once as well.

Having said that, I'm asking that those of us that have been doing this a while extend a little patience, maturity and wisdom to the younger members so they can one day fill our shoes when we are not here to help the next generations of snake keepers out.

Why not give the guy a break he has already said he is working on getting it right and changing things as he learns. The more abuse you give the more likely he is to **** off elsewhere rather than continue to learn and ask questions.

I had hoped that Wayne's post the other day about this would make a difference but obviously some people dont give a ****.

what im about to write is not aimed at any one individual

im getting a tad sick of the way some folk on here seem to think they should be lifted up onto a pedastill for the advice they give out.

then when they don't they throw a strop and get aggresive with their posts.

its not rocket science to work out if a particular thread makes you behave this way.imo the soulution is post your view then just dont go back to it.

yes theres a few folk who come on and ask for advice then when you give them your help they dont take it or argue against it.but surely the more experienced keeper should be able to seperate these kind of folk from the genuine ones who take on board what they're being advised.

also your post of advice wont be wasted as im sure there will be plenty newbies read and take on board said advice without us even knowing.

imo agressive posting will not only scare away the the non responsive newbies but it is in danger of scaring away all newbies.(from at least asking questions anyway).

theres a very popular forum in the uk thats just went that way.folk are scared to post,scared they make typo's,its basically a ruined forum destined to fail.

there seems imo to be a new less tollerant atmosphere on here lately and that can only lead to other more decent newcomers leaving the forum and looking else where for there information.

there are a lot of experienced and knowledgeable keepers on here but lately a select few seem to have next to no paitence with the newbies.

i cannot understand why they get involved if they feel so angry about it

yes we all need folks advice from time to time.lets face it no one was born a bloody herpetologist

so why is it of late that a selct few just cant play nice with others ???????

as said at the begining of my post this is NOT aimed at any single person i just happenesd to use this thread to say my piece
