Well, I've had snakes forever, and well i plan to breed boas eventually. However, i dont have any boas atm that are quality to breed. So, im thinking for getting quite a few morphs of corn snakes and maybe breeding them for a while. It seems smarter to me to have a bit of experence breeding before making big investments. I alreay have a bit of an understanding about Genetics, but it seems i couuld probably learn alot from corn snakes. Could someone tell me if this is the right direction? I have experence keeping both speices as well as quite a few others, but no breeding experence. Should i start with the corns or just dive right into where i want to end up eventually?

Corns are very common and are egg layers. Boas are live bearers and worth more money. But remember that you have to feed all the babies until you sell them, which can run into a considerable amount of money some times.

I breed Amazon Tree Boas and Checkered Garter snakes. Both are live bearers and I am never in a rush to sell the babies. The babies always seam to sell before the next clutch of babies comes along. I would start off with what you really want to breed.

i was actually kind of think ATBs, just because you can usually find them cheap. Don't want any W/C though

Some are cheap, but other can get pricey. Gardens are the cheap ones, colors and morphs can and do sell at higher prices.

so what if you breed a Garden with lets say a patternless yellow? same as with other snakes genes?

That is what is great about breeding ATB's, you can breed 2 gardens and get colored babies. The multi colors are not morphs, they are natural colors and patterns. You will get more colors if you breed colored parents, but you get colored babies sometimes, even if both parents are gardens.

Easy to breed. I put my male with my female together in Dec. and leave them until late Feb. Then by late Sept early Oct. I have babies.

There are top tier breeders in the US and Canada that could not figure out how to get Boas to breed.

If that is really what you want to do you might want to consider gathering lessons learned from others before you invest in Boas.

From what I understand:
(from those that breed them) it is more of an art that say corns or BP.

I would like to eventually breed my dumeril, but I have to first get a male and raise it. Interesting to know boas are harder to breed. So I pose a question, could you just house them together until the hook up?

I believe he is speaking about non common Boas and is referring to getting some high end genes and morphs such as IMGs, sunglows, moonglows, snows with jungle, motley and such patterns.

To the OP, I would do ALOT of reading and research before breeding Boas, as stated above, they are don't the easiest.

I had success first time so it can't be that hard lol, I didn't do it to make money and I haven't in fact I still have 14 of the 22 lol.

I would dive in and breed boa's if that's your goal.

You haven't said why you plan to breed but if its to make some coin I would think you need deep pockets.
