Why won't some sellers sell females by themselves?
I've been checking classifieds for IJ carpet pythons and have noticed a number of sellers who will sell a m/f pair, or the male by himself, but they won't sell the female by herself.
I'm at a loss as to why. Seems they might want the two to be bred together, but they'll sell the male by himself. What am I missing?

Re: Why won't some sellers sell females by themselves?
if they have had a clutch that is male heavy, they then use the females to help get rid of the males mate
i've also seen it done with the more rarer pythons like diamond pythons, where you cannot buy a lone female but you can buy single males
cheers shaun

What Shaun said...
Males are harder to sell with most any snake, so breeders often offer only pairs.
Occasionally a clutch will be produced that is mostly females, then the females are offered solo.
I had to accept a reverse trio once (2 males + 1 female) because the breeder needed the extra males sold.

Re: Why won't some sellers sell females by themselves?
I actually very rarely see places offer sexed snakes singly without some sort of rules unless it's someone selling individual specimens rather than clutches.
Another thing I have to add is that in most scenarios you can use a male with several females, so the demand for females is greater, giving another reason for them needing to get rid of the males. Some places will charge more for the females to help get around this instead of requiring pairs. Some places won't sell them sexed unless specifically asked (and then they charge a fee) and sell off most the males first.
I found it strange when pricing out ball morphs that the males go for so much more, it seems so backwards to me, but I guess since many of the morphs are dominant, if you get one nice male (for a price) you can get a bazillion cheap normal females (exaggerating) and still have some awesome clutches all from the single male.

the reason for the ball morph males being more expensive,is you can throw the male over as many females as you like and get multipule clutches of the desired morph
a ball morph female you get 1 clutch only

Last year I hit the jackpot with a breeder friend, She set me up so I have 3 females and one male.
But she ceased breeding them, now it's my turn.
