Say hello to my little friend. lol Got my baby yellow today. Dad's a hypo so he got some nice yellow. When i open the box i was ready for a striking machine, but i got lucky and got a mellow little guy. I had a baby one years ago that got stolen that was mellow as could be. He climb all over me for about 20 minutes before putting him in his cage. So i did get some pics. 10071

Beautiful Man!!!! What is the difference between yellow and Green Anacondas?
Yellow male top out about 7 to 8 feet and females 10 to 12 feet. In greens Male top out about 10 to 14 and females any where between 16 to 24 most the time.I just seen pics on another site of a 9 year old yellow male that was only about 6 feet. Green tend to be a bit more mellow. With yellows you either have a mellow snake or psyhco with a mouth like a chainsaw. There's really not many that fall in the middle or a least that's what most people say. But people who have actually work with them from the time they're babies will say about 80% of them are tame. Just like bloods and ETB and GTP they get a bad wrap. If people work with them from the time they're little you can usually be tame them down.

Anacondas eat birds correct?
Or do captives get "rodent trained"?

There's a video, National Geographic I believe, of one eating a giant capybara. Which is basically a big rodent. YouTube - Best '08! Anaconda Hunts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Unzg7C1KJo0&feature=fvw)

Yes! They will it rat, birds, and fish. My first one use to eat a gold fish once a month. The guy i got him from would feed it a rat fuzzie once every 7 days. Then on the first each month put a gold fish in it's water bowl at night and in the morning it would be gone. I only did once and was told that gold fish are toxic to some snakes. So didn't do it again. I wasn't sure if it was true or not but didn't want to chance it. Which is something i been wondering. Besides rat what kind of fish can you feed snake and are gold fish toxic to snakes? As far as temperment i had to remove the third hide to give him more room and give him fresh water. As i was getting the water bowl he climb right up my arm. Had out handling him for about 15 minutes mellow as can be. Like my carpets he fought me trying to get him back in the cage. lol Seem to like being handle.:)

I think you want to stay away from carp, (goldfish) and catfish for sure. I had looked into this for my Ribbon snakes.
"Fish is risky for another reason. Some kinds of fish contain an enzyme called thiaminase, which breaks down Vitamin B1. Garter snakes fed an exclusive diet of these fish — such as some bait minnows, alewives, and other oily fish — can develop a Vitamin B1 deficiency. Symptoms include a loss of coordination and motor control as well as violent convulsions."

Oh well! Yeah there's a couple pet store around here i won't even set foot in because the owner or worker are such a--holes. "I'll just take my money and spend at another pet store" That what i told one owner how was being a A--hole to me for ask to many question about a BRB i wanted to by. So i got my BRB online. Plus even with shipping it was cheaper than the one he had and i got to pick which sex i wanted.

We he just ate his first meal for me. I was feeding my BRB and figure i see if he eat a mouse fuzzie. Well he ate 2 fat mice fuzzies. I got some pics i'll post tomorrow. Gave him F/T and he just open up his mouth swallow it down. First one was down in under a minute. After the second one he got in the water bowl for a bit an chilled out. First time i seen him in the water.

marvelfreak
08-20-10, 01:12 PM
No smell, but his cage did smell funky this morning. Kind of like when my BRB throw up a couple months ago. I checked his cage and nothing, but in the hide he ate the second one in it look like he pissed and that was where the smell was coming from so i clean it out. Seen pic of a adult male yellow that was only around 4 feet. I didn't know they could be that small. All you every read is male top out about 7 to 8 feet. I asked if there was such a thing as Dwarf in yellows, but haven't got a response. Now i am trying to find out what the small side of this guys are. Plus man i thought my carpets were active every time i walk in to the room he climbing all over. Most active snake i ever seen. I also had to move him in to a bigger cage. Younger than my first yellow, but about 6 inch bigger and fatter.

Yeah i heard of feeding chicken or quail. Seen a guy once feed a 15 foot burmese a duck from his pond.
watched a programme measuring the constriction force of large snakes.
they taped pressure switches onto a live turkey then put it into an anaconda cage.
900lb per square inch was what they measured and it held that pressure constant for 15 minutes.
they said it was the equivilent of a school bus sitting on your chest.
so your wee guy will be able to give you the mother of all cuddles one day chuck.
love the head shape and the eyes of these guys when they're adults.

Dam he's a fast little bugger. Had him out today and he try to get on top of my jungle carpets cage. Shot right out of my hands. Luckly i caught him in mid air. Had to keep putting hand in front of the other as fast as i could so he wouldn't fall. Took a couple minutes to get a good hold on him. I found out you can feed them gold fish or other kinds of fish, but if they don't eat it in a day or two you need to change the water every day. The reason being the fish will create Ammonia in the water which if it gets to high can be toxic to snakes. So next week he might get a feeder fish. So here's some more pics.

if you going to feed it feeder fish i recomend getting a small tank and breeding the fish yourself, unless the fish store you get them from keeps their feeder tank Super clean. mind you feeders dont have much nutrients unless is different when snakes eat them, i know for my old oscar fish i said dont feed them feeder unless its a rare treat as its like us eating potato chips lol

I know he got some bright yellow and dark black. His dad was a hypo. I try to upload a pic, but it to big. His got twice the yellow on his sides and belly as my first one. He like my Bredli always poping his head out when i walk into the room. As far as the feeder fish i figure i just give him one every couple of months. Kind of like a treat. The pet store i get my rats at has super clean tanks.

Hey Chuck, you got some place to take it swimming when it gets big?
I know of a guy on Kingsnake that jumps in the swimming pool and hangs out with his yellow.
(Before anyone else asks, Anaconda are very aquatic. Their eyes are situated higher up on their head so they can lay in the water and grab birds that get close enough to eat.)

Yeah i seen one another site a guy who takes his two green outside in the back yard and let them swim in a kid pool. For now he got a big water bowl. When he get bigger will get move to a bigger cage with a huge bowl. (his water get change at least twice a day.) Plus i will let him swim in the bath tub or put a kiddy pool in the basement. When he hit Adult size 6 to 7 feet Iam going to make him a cage with a landscaping pond in the bottom on one side. I made one years ago for my jungle with a 2 1/2 by 2 foot pond. When we moved cage was so big it fell apart under its own weight in the move. It was a little top heavy. I would let him swim in my youngest pool, but it big enough 3'x12' you have to use chemicals to keep it clean.
P.S. does any one Know what het Albino Arg X is?

LMAO Same girth or more of a adult blood plus twice as long = twice the size piles of poo. 10181 Lucky me. lol It well worth it to have one of this beautiful animals. Trying to talk the miss into getting a female next year and breed them in about 4 years. The only thing keeping her from saying yes is if we can't sell them we'll be stuck with a bunch of anacondas. I don't see a down side outside of more giant piles of poo to clean up. Cool thing is in saying no to breeding yellow she now talking about getting a female BRB to breed with my male BRB and a Diamond or Jag to breed with my Diamond x Jungle. She slowly starting to warm up to my snakes.:)

They are banned in FL. is why. I got mine online, but if laws change you won't be able to ship or take them over state lines. That the reason i keep telling my wife we should breed them. We could be the only breeder in our state. She said a male one thing , but no females they just get to big. Oh well! I can't complain at first she totally against a anaconda. Till i show her info on them about how male are a lot smaller. Plus it helped that it was my birthday so she said i could get as my gift from her.

Just ate his second meal for me. It's cool to watch. Unlike python or other boas anaconda don't just throw a coil or two around their prey. That wrap completely around it. Last week i gave him 2 mouse fuzzies ate them like nothing. Didn't even leave a lump. So this week i gave him 2 rat fuzzies. He mowed them down. Didn't even have the first one a 1/4 of the way down and started on the second. Got a nice small lump now. As he was eating the second one i changed his water. As i put the bowl back in he turn and started climbing up my arm. So i set him back in his hide. Now that mellow. Just ate and didn't even try to strike. He's never once strike or hissed. I luck out again with a super friendly snake. Oh yeah!

Thanks,
I only seen me in the water twice. Both time after eating. He get in for about 10 minute then head to one of his hides. My old one use to spend about 2 hours a day in his water always between 9 at night and midnight. Then he go in his hide on the warm end of the cage. I read on some other forums where almost 80% say their yellow hardly ever get in the water. If they do it's only for a hour or two. Then the other 20% say their spend 50 to 80% of their time in the water. They say the reason Green spend more time in the water is because they're so heavy it relives some of the pressure put on their body.

There are a few guys on another forum that I am on that keep anacondas, yellow and green. When they get so big they just provide a water dish for them to drink out of. They say trying to give them a soaking tub is a waste of time, one because they rarely use it, and two because when they do use it inevitably it gets dumped. I suppose that their behavior would adapt to captivity. Interesting.:nerd:

Anaconda mean water boa. There was some one on one of the forums i am on that asked "do keepers provide water bowls or pools big enough for adult anacondas to soak or swim in." I was shocked that a lot of them don't. I myself believe not providing a anaconda with something big enough at least to soak in if not big enough to swim in is negleted. Mine will always have a water bowl big enough to soak an swim around in. To me it doesn't matter if they use it all the time it should still be provided. I always say if you can't provide it with the kind of cage and housing they require as adult don't get one. I plan on putting a small landscaping pond in mine with a pump and filter when i move him into the adult cage. I am going to set it up so it has a drain in the bottom. That way i can easily drain it, clean it, and refill. Also you can get watering tank as small as 2'x1'1' like for horse and cow. They are heavy enough with water in it they couldn't tip over.

09-03-10, 06:28 PM
Full grown i want to have at least 6'x2'x2' or 8'x2'x2' boaphile cage maybe even bigger. When he hits the 3 foot mark his getting move to a 4'x2'x1' cage. I figure by the time he 3 years old he'll be big enough that i can decide for sure which size will work best for him.

Ate his third meal for me the other day 1 small rat. It was a little bigger than the two rat fuzzies he had last week. I couldn't believe he ate it so easy. It was a little smaller than the small rats my yearling carpets and borneo eat, but for only being two month old you wouldn't think it could eat something that big. I think he going to be on the bigger side for a male yellow.

Thanks! I am thinking about making a 5'x3'x2' wood box. I am going to put some sand, rocks, and branches in it. So i can take natural pics during the winter when i can't take them outside. I might even put a small landscaping pond in it. If i can find one this late in the summer.

I am making a tank that you may be interested in at the moment Chuck. Its for my adult scrubs and measures 2m high x 2m wide x 1.4m deep. I made the tank in two sections so you can just take out 8 screws and make each half 700mm deep so it still fits through doorways ( i am thinking of making a 3rd section to give them more floor space but am unsure yet ). I will be putting a pond in it with a fountain as this will control the higher humidity quite easily. Also using rails and fixing a 60 litre tub on the roof as a hide, this way you just slide out the tub and wash it. I will be using a one way tint on the glass as to make sure the snakes cant see out as they will be in our living room with lots of traffic. I will make a thread next time im on and put some photo's up for you to have a look at if you want. Im only up to painting it at the moment , but will do progress updates.

Cheers guy's. The other half's camera is flat at the moment and i cant find the charger damn it. I will definetely put picks up tonight.
Im still trying to find a nice big v in a tree that i can use in the tank. I want something around 10" round so that when they are perched they will be comfortable. Also this tank has a lot of wheels underneath that can support up to 400kg's which is plenty, but considering i used 16mm MDF wood the tank with out glass and empty weighs 150kg lol.
I found a good site with some great deals on fake ferns that are 2m tall and branch out to 1.5m which will be ideal for this tank along with plenty of fake vines and other plants. It should look like a jungle theme in their which is their natual habitat. Im looking at the possibilities of putting some green tree frogs in their at the moment as well but im not sure if i will.

Yellow male top out about 7 to 8 feet and females 10 to 12 feet. In greens Male top out about 10 to 14 and females any where between 16 to 24 most the time. I just seen pics on another site of a 9 year old yellow male that was only about 6 feet.

Shaun he already taking one extra small rat every week. I have a feeling he going to be a big one. He already becoming a chunky one. We just sold all the game out of the kids gameroom in the basement. They never play with it any way. So this is going to become my Snakeroom. It's 9 1/2 feet x 27 feet. Over the winter i am going to get it all set up. Start working on my anaconda cage. Give me something to do to kill time while i am stuck in the house over the winter. I am goin to put a sink in down there to. Thanks to Percey i have a couple cool ideas for his cage.

That the Hypo from his dad coming threw. The guy i got him from had pics of all the babies and i got to pick which one i wanted. He had some of the brightest yellow. There was one that had even more and brighter yellow than mine. I almost got that one till i notice it was three time fatter than the rest and it was the only one striking at the camara. The last thing i wanted was a really big pissy yellow. Out of all the different breeder i looked at he by far had the nice looking yellows.

Got 2 new snake hooks for my Birthday early from my son and had to try them out. They are as thick as my index finger and 38 inches long. They have rubber on the hook and handle. He got them on sale for $13.00 each at Reptile basic.com
Any one with a big or heavy snake need one of this.

Feeds like a machine. Use to be i would have to lay the f/t rat in the cage, and he take his time eating. Now he gets fresh kill and pounds them. Use to stay in his hide until i closed the door. Now he right at the door when i feed. I open the cage toss the rat in last week and he nailed it in the air. Now he like feeding my Carpets.
Since i started getting rat from a buddy for they all get fresh killed and they all become more aggressive at feeding time. It was a life saver for more Borneo. She would only it once every couple month and was losing wight. Started giving her fresh kill and she double her wight in the last couple months and now back to a health wight.

Go right ahead. All i did was throw a old light brown sheet over the kids old pool table. This last summer i got the branch and rocks out of my back yard and soaked them in the tub in bleach water. I saved them just for using them to take pictures in the winter. Till it warms up and i can take them outside again for photo shots.

Yeah hes very pretty. I love Yellows. Anacondas in general are on my "wish but will never have" list along with Burms and Retics. Oh well.
I remember a friend of mine had one and let me handle him warning me of his temperment at the same time. This snake when he was on me was as chill as can be but when this friend would get too close, he would try to strike at him even while he was chill on my arm. I thought that was funny.

His temperaments been fine. The only time i have to be careful is right before shed and a couple days after. We've come to a understanding. Handling session are always left up to him. I can tell with in 30 second if he in the mood or not. I haven't had a strike, hiss, or bite since last summer. I do make sure to keep them short that's how he likes it. Also he a morning snake. lol He doesn't mind being messed with early in the day, but after 4 pm he starts getting cranky. I need to make a new video of him.

Very old Boaphile cages i got used about 3 years ago. The guy i got them from said he got them new 8 or 9 years before. I am kind of surprise at his size myself. First year he grew 3 feet. This year he only grow about 10 inches but he is starting to to pack the weight on. His girth as double the last six months. :)
Now i wish i could figure out how everyone puts the video right in the post.

There are a few ways to do it but one way is... under your video on youtube, you see the button "share". It'll show this:
http:// youtu.be/UFE_wt4xDww
I take the part after the "/" ... the "UFE_wt4xDww"
Then post it like this: [ youtube ] UFE_wt4xDww [ /youtube ] without the spaces

He bit me three times, my daughter Amber once, and my neighbor Bill once. Every time he was in shed. But not even a strike in months. I have found if i am getting him out he stay calmer if i am the only one in the room.

Thanks! He mellow while in the cage but if he not in the mood to come out it's a battle. I was hoping by putting the camera down i be able to get him out but he wanted no part of that. I could tell i was starting to get to the point of pushing my luck. I will get a good video of me holding him one of this days.

Well he shed yesterday so i cleaned his cage and try to get him out so i could take him out side for some pictures. After about 10 minutes i get him out of the cage. The whole time he just trying to get away. Well he fast as hell got away knock my BRB cage off the shelf. Lucky i caught it. So after a good 5 minute battle i got him back in his cage and he settle right down and let me get some picture of him in his new shed.

So the other day me and Apocalypse played hide in go seek. I took him out for a photo shot. As soon as i set him down it was on. He shot out of the tub i put him in. Thank god i had closed the Snake room door. So he goes under the work bench behind a bunch of PVC pipes. As i pull the pipes out to get to him he shoots out pass me in the blink of a eye right over my shoulder and under my Boaphile cages. So i grab a hook and after 20 minutes I finally got a hold of him and got him back in the cage. For all the wrestling i did trying to get him back in his cage he never once struck at me.
All this just because i want to get some pictures of him wet the the photo contest. So i entered pictures of my Bloods. Well yesterday he let me get some pictures of him after i misted his cage so here are some of them.

Apocalypse shed yesterday, so i thought i get some pictures. While taking some of him in his cage he crawled out so i took him outside for some more. We had a really nice 25 minute photo session outside. I got to see him stretched out and i believe he only around 5.5 feet long i thought for sure he was longer. Thanks. I like to point out that Anacondas like Retics seem to have a higher intelligence level than most snakes. In the picture were the snake hook is in front of him. He was starting to head were i didn't want him to go so i put it in front of him and tapped it once on the ground and he stopped. When i tapped it the second time he turn around and headed the opposed direction. I have train him to do this when i clean his cage. I will tap the hook twice on the side i want to clean and he goes to the other side of the cage, and sit and watch me clean it.

I believe with out a doubt that my Yellow is the fast moving snake i ever owned. Took him out for a photo shoot and put him on a branch i keep in the snake room. I step back to take a picture and looked away for 5 seconds. He flies up the branch to the ceiling threw a hole above some duct work that i didn't even know was there. Into the next room then wedges himself between the ceiling and duct work.
http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/2669/20120721082133.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/20120721082133.jpg/)
So i tried misting him to see if that would get him to move, but he just sat there. I keep trying to work his body out but there were to many things for him to wrap around. So finally i put a pair of gloves on and went for his head. This got him striking at me. Each time he strike i would back up a little more. This made him have to come out more and more. When he was striking with about half is body i grabbed behind his head a took a bite to the glove but was able to work him the rest of the way out. Took him back to his cage where he hid in the back for two days. I felt so bad for stressing them out. Then it rain the next morning i went in to the snake room to catch him just finishing shedding.
So here's some new pictures. has he was finishing his shed.

He does really good until i put him down. Then he runs for it every time. What sucked was he hasn't even try to bite in over a year. But i had to provoke him to bite so he loosen his grip and come out so i could get him with hurting him. I still feel so bad about doing it.

That's because they are usually Greens. Plus wild snake tend to be darker as the are in the sun a lot more, so the have better tans. lol But seriously it help them bend in better.

I never owned a green but I know someone who owned both. Said greens were far less messy. My yellow would never defecate on my or out of the cage, but a couple times a day would poop. And the poop is not like boa poop or burm poop, its a little more runny and smells horrible lol.

Yes he still mellow just get very flighty when out of the cage. When i take him out all he does is try to get right back in the cage. All my other snakes i have to fight to get them back in their cages. Not him i can be 3 to 4 feet away from his cage and he will just shoot out of my hands straight for the cages door.

I assume he is blue? Or is the flash fogging his eyes? If so be sure to post up the post shed shots.

Yeah he grown quite a bit in the last three years. I did find out the other day he a little shorter than i always guess him to be. He was stretched across the front of his cage and his tail was just touching the on end and his head was a inch shy of the far side of the 8 foot cage. So he right at 8 feet i thought he was closer to 8.5 feet.

Thanks! I never get over how stunning he is after a shed.
Goodness he just looks so angry with those eyes! But really, a beautiful animal. I love how bright the yellows are even after he's all grown up. I know some snakes really lose a lot of the brightness as they age.

He has such cool eyes he either looks cute and innocent or look like pure evil that wants to eat your face. Then other times he looks like goofy sock puppet.

Haha I can tell, some times it looks like he is the friendliest snake others, it looks like hes gonna become a little agitated.
