He always look either happy or down right evil no in between. Being anaconda tend to be in hunting mode when in the water i was use a hook so he knows he not getting fed. Plus i always feed on the warm side of the cage. No where near the water. Doing this he never had a problem with me reaching into the water bowl and puling him out.:D

Very good question. After reading it i went and checked his and a few of the others.

My room temp in the snake room is 73.9 F and the water temp in his cage was 71.9. The other three cages i just checked ranged between 70.3 to 73.6. his water temp. Ones with smaller bowls had slightly high water temps.

Is that low for a snake that spends for the most part in the water? I measured all my snakes water and they range from 72.6 to 74.3 my air temps were 76.5 at the time.

I am not really sure. I know he seems to like it. Every since i put the bigger water bowl in he has been taking more soaks. But even then it only couple times week. He never been a big soaker. As he gotten older though he will soak longer. Use to be never more than a couple hours at a time now he'll soak some time for as much as 6 to 7 hours. I have noticed it only on the days that the out temp is 80 degrees F or hotter will he soak for long time.

I was just thinking that if the water was to cold and he was soaking for hours at a time there would be a possibility of an R.I. But if he soaks when its 80df outside then the water would be above the lowest cool temp and would not be a problem.

No problem. In the winter he will only soak for about a hour or so and only when in shed.

On a side note when i thawed out rats to feed yesterday i had on extra bag of jumbos and largest left. So since i am ordering more next week i figure i give a few of my snakes a extra rat. So my Yellow and male Black Blood each eat 2 Jumbos and one large. The lager were ones that two of my other snake both in shed wouldn't touch. So later today i'll try to get some pictures of him all blown up.:)

For being full he super activate. Every time i going the snake room he crusing around.

As big as his body is he has a really small head. I truthfully don't think he be able to take one with out injuring himself. After he eat the jumbos his neck is super stretched out.

In captivity males top out around 8 to 10 feet and females 10 to 14 feet. there have been report of a couple females hitting 16 feet. My guy will be 3 the 16 th of this month and i have had him since he was a month old. He was 20 inches when i got him now he just under 8 feet.

Anacondas definitely get a hold of you when you get one. They are unlike any snake I've ever seen. I totally love my Green, and would love to have more but I think I'll keep it at the one girl and totally give her all my lovin'!

Thanks Cliff. So i found away to get him out of his cage without him freaking. He was chilling in his water bowl so i just pulled it out and set it in a tub.

What you don't see in the video is him biting me in the forearm and breaking four teeth off in my arm. My wife was video taping and as soon as he try to make a break for it she split. I was real proud of her for video taping it because he the one snake i have that she hates and is scared to death of.

First video i did a couple years ago i thought some one had messed with the sound as i couldn't believe how strange my voice sounded.

He got ungodly speed. Heck Tami ran in the house and missed recording all the good stuff. The two minute that follow were me grabbing him by his tail hand over hand just trying to keep a grip on him. Once he made it to the side walk and was off the grass he started to settle down. That's when i got him to go back into the tote. Then he didn't want to come out until i put the tote right in front of his cage door. At which point he went in and mellow right down.

Thanks Cliff. There was no way i was going to let him get away. As for his bites they are nothing. They are fast but really painless. Of course i am not a rat either. lol With him his bite are a quick leave me alone type bite. I hate to ever take a feeding response type bite from him.

First, I'd like to say its awesome you shared the growth, and experiences with this guy Chuck. Those that will never own one get an idea of what keeping one is like. The last video didn't work for me, so i'm still at a loss for a scale on his size now that he's just short of 8 feet. I know you said the wife is terrified of him(funny enough my GF is only freaked out by my retic and the yellow anaconda), but what are the chances of some good scale pics with you in them to get an idea of what I can look forward to if mine hits 8 feet.

Just seen this. I'll see what i can do. If nothing else i'll try getting a picture of me with my arm in the cage next to him.

I did have a first happen with him yesterday. When i clean his cage and get him water i always leave the cage door open. As i was in the other room getting water he will always stick his head out of the cage about a foot never more. Well this time i come back and he is a good three foot out resting his head on some totes stacked next to his cage. So i carefully set his water bowl/ toilet lol back in the cage. He then slowly pulled his head back in the cage. As i set my hand on the tote waiting for him to get all the way in so i could close the cage, he starts coming back out and climb about a foot up my arm. He was just flicking his tongue checking me out for a good minute then he slowly went back in the cage. This just made my day. Finally building up some trust for me.:):)

The little As-hole about got my face when i fed him the other night. Normally he one of the first to get fed right after the Carpets well this time he was the last. So i got the rat by the tail getting ready to open the door and drop it in. Bam he nails the cage door so i move to the other door to give me time to drop it in before he move to the other side of the cage. I cracked the door open about a inch and he shoots out, grabs the rat, and slams into the side of my face. I drop the door as he starts to wrap around the door and the rat. This makes him fall part way out of the cage. So now he hanging half way out holding on by his tail and wrapping tighter around the rat and the door. I manage to get him unhooked from the door and now have my hand under him so he doesn't fall completely out of the cage.

Then he goes and let's go of his bite on the rat and is only a foot from my face i go to push him back in the cage. He strike at my hand that isn't under him holding him up. So i had to yell for Tami to come down and help. She handed me my snake hook so i can lift him back into the cage. As soon as i close the door he bites the rat again and eats it.

I pulled the hide off of him and drop the rat right in front of him and he shoots out the cage. I had to grab him three time with rat on my hand and put him back in the cage. Ever time i try to put the lid on he make another break for it. So i finally set him in the cage still hold on to him i grab the rat and throw it on him. He bites and wrap. This was the first time i got him to eat something besides a live rat. Now if he just do it next time without the game of catch me. lol What sucks is i almost had my wife video tape me feeding them but didn't want to wait for her to get off the phone. Man now i wished i had waited then it would have been on tape.

Wow, my dad went to feed his ball python a live rat, and as he was moving the rat over, it's tail snapped off and blood was everywhere and the rat started to run away, getting its blood on the walls lol

So our last feeding was very interesting I crack the door a hair not even far enough to drop the rat in and he shot out nail the rat. Knocking the door wide open before i knew it he was wrapped haft way up my arm with the rat still in his mouth. His tail was wrapped around the lip of the doorway. So rat in mouth, mid body wrapped around me and tail wrapped on the door frame. I had to yell for Tami (who is scared to death of him) to help me unwrap him and get him back in the cage. All the while praying he don't let go of the rat and go for my beautiful face. lol His power is insane my arm was blue by the time we got him off.
