Just thought i would throw some pics up of the monster for you guy's to see. He is very sociable (for a snake) and when i let him out for a roam in the lounge he tends to come sit in my lap instead. He comes our for at least an hour a day. I turn the heater on for him at night and during the day he likes to sit on the couch in the sun and stare at the birds on our lawn lol. When i get home he comes straight of his hide and rubs on the glass waiting to be let out.
He is the most spoilt snake i own. He is the favourite of my entire collection for both my friends and family.

He is so lovely! I am intrigued and nervous about big snakes perhaps one day I will.... I am totally jealous in a very good way!

Hes not too big at the moment, but will eventually get around 3m-3.5m. Their absolute max is around 4.5m for a female. He is a big boy though as he is only around 15 months old. He is far too placid though, has no aggression what so ever.

you got me sitting here grinning from ear to ear mate.i know what your saying re them speaking to us.i swear my coastal jag was a human in a former life.one with a crazy sense of humour my wife and i lye in bed and most of my tanks are at the bottom of our bed.i swear he acts like an excited puppy when he sees us.gets all excited pacing back and forth the front of the tank with a go on take me out look on his face.sadly its the same jag ive had re occuring ri's with.was at the vet yesterday and after throwing £370 in total over the last 9 months the problems still there.my vets bills are now more than double what i paid for him but he's the family pet so i wont be giving up anytime soon.they think it may be similar to a human disease where the lung produces mucas until the victim drowns.cant remember the name of the human equiviliant.im taking him to another vet for a second opinion as reccomened by my own vet.both these vets work for zoo's so they know there stuff.sadly he said we've covered all the standard issues now we're entering into the wierd and nasty section of diseases.the cures are quite severe on their liver and kidneys so we have to be very sure before we commence any treatments.let you know how it goes mate.

cheers shaun

Pleurisy/emphysema?

percey39
07-22-10, 06:52 AM
Yeah i reckon some can talk thats for sure. All i think i hear from one of my scrubs is "feed me or its your face" lol.
Sorry to hear about your jag mate. Its always hard when the money spendings get well and truely above the cost of the snake. I had a scrub that had some major issues after being purchased from a pet shop. I ended up spending $2000 aussie dollars on her vet bills to figure out she had liver issues and a bad RI. I refused to let the bills bother me and had friends saying to stop as the snake only cost me $250, but i grew a real relationship i feel with ths snake and i could never ever part with her. She is all better now but has kept the wheezing sound when she gets excited. She is very placid towards me now an wont even look like striking me but will go nuts when other people try and handle her.
Please let me know how it goes at the vets and i hope it turns around and makes a full recovery for you mate. As i know how your feeling.

Pleurisy/emphysema?

the vet couldnt remember the name laura.he said it was like the disease gordon brown our ex prime ministers son had.the poor child passed away with it. something like ms or the likes it affects human lungs and is uncurable.

i really hope its not that as ive done everything in my power to heal this guy.he had keyhole surgery and his lung was healthy and pink.all the swabs came back bacteria free.however we're going to swab his windpipe in a months time just incase the swabs were unlucky and missed something.as said i keep carpets into double figures but this guy is classed as our family pet.i swear he has a sense of humour.the billy connelly of the snake world.:crazy2::crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

thanks for the suggestions pal

you thought anymore about getting a carpet:yes:

cheers shaun

On the carpet front, I must admit you guys are selling them pretty well :P

percey39
07-22-10, 07:11 AM
I really hope its not that shaun as you do form strong a bond when you have one like that.

Laura carpets are great snakes and really are a joy to own. As i have said a nice bredli normal or a hypo would be a fantastic choice to start your addiction. Eventually you will end up wanting the whole carpet family, especially scrubbies. To me there is no snake that could compare to a scrub, they are truelly fascinating and active. Their purple glow is just something else as well. Their size is their only downfall, if you could even call it that lol

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 07:15 AM
And the big teeth ;)

percey39
07-22-10, 07:17 AM
Their is no better sight in the world than a full grown scrub comming at your face at 100mph lol You will see in time if you start buying carpets its only natural that you will want a scrub!!! In all seriousness though bredli or diamonds are the best of the bunch when it come to temperement

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 07:19 AM
So are they kinda diurnal then?

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 07:20 AM
Ps. any snake I buy I'd want it from a baby so I can be responsible for its temperament :D

for me its diamonds mate.ive never had a snake that i peer into the tank like a love sick teenager.my mrs gets jealous of her i swear.she gives it i wish you looked and spoke to me like that:yes::yes::yes:

i know what you mean about forming a bond with a sickly snake.im sure he knows i'm trying to help him.for all he's been through he's never once hissed or attempted to strike.even yesterday when we took his stitches out.they should have come out with the second shed after the operation.however they did'nt so we had to dig them out.he was the perfect gentleman.the thing that frustrates me most is he's eating everything i put in front of him.he's back up to size and apart from the tiny droplets of mucas is in great condition.will keep you all informed of his progress.
cheers shaun

They are in cold weather and in warmer weather they prefer night time. In my opinion though they are nocturnal. Both species are pussy cats generally and its very rare to get a nasty one.

all carpets can't be tamed down laura.i had a jungle that i tried on a daily basis (except after meals) for 18 months until i decided it was'nt going to calm down.he's called crazy bert.he lives up to his name.4 out of 5 of my jungles are nutters...!!

that said my mates got an adult thats a complete angel.

9 out of 10 carpets do calm down nicely.my own personal experience has been that jungles seem to be the worst for not calming down.as said a bredl would be a good choice.or even a diamond/jungle some of them are real lookers.along with diamond/jungle/jaguars,bredl/jags,jungle/jags and my personal favorite irian jaya jaguars.honestly imo theres a carpet out there to suit everyones taste.they are semi arboreal so most days they're out hanging of a branch watching what your doing.really nice display snakes i have to admit im a tad biased pal:yes::yes::yes:

haha that sounds like me lol Oh please cant i have more tigers snakes and some nice taipan ( i still cant have those *sigh* ) or i have built another section for my scrubs tank and am getting more as there is more room in the tank now, oh i almost forgot to mention it takes up nearly the entire spare bedroom. Now its i just bought a marine fish tank, she says what fish are we getting? Oh no fish just a blue ringed octopus. Then i run!!!!!

Nah just ear plugs and some soothing incense lol If you dont say anything till the last minute they cant do too much. I just try and sleep with one eye open now :Wow:

Nice snakes shaun, you really like getting me jealous. I wish i still had my diamonds!

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 07:44 AM
Yeah I did that with Lola, Mark isn't spontaneous at all and has to plan everything, so whilst we were out I walked into the local rep store and left with Lola and her lil setup :P

percey39
07-22-10, 07:49 AM
Haha its really the only way you will get what you want when you know they will say no. There is always limits though, but i break them all the time when it comes to animals lol.

07-22-10, 07:50 AM
Reading this makes me so glad my missus is into reptiles as well - the last three we bought were here persuading me to part with the cash rather than the other way around!

percey39
07-22-10, 07:54 AM
You lucky lucky man. My last 15 animals have nearly all been small indescretions lol I think i have nearly got to the point where she doesnt care about snakes anymore. She really loves this olive, but none of the others or any of the other snakes. In saying that though i have caught her in my hot's room saying good morning to them all.

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 08:03 AM
I'd kill to visit the hot room!

percey39
07-22-10, 08:11 AM
Haha if only you were closer to my house. I dont have many people come round and show interest in going in that room. It would be nice to have someone over to talk to and show all my snakes to.

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 08:16 AM
Well my uncle is from Melbourne so if/when he moves back you never know :P

percey39
07-22-10, 08:18 AM
Haha you are more than welcome if you do come over this way. Just look out for a crazy girl screaming NO MORE and thats my house.

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 08:24 AM
Hahahaha sounds easy enough to find!

percey39
07-22-10, 08:28 AM
Im sure it will be all to easy to find!!!! There will also only be more and more hot's too my addiction with them is starting to take complete control lol

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 08:34 AM
I'd love to think I'd be able to keep them one day, but it'll never happen as I like handling too much :P

percey39
07-22-10, 08:38 AM
Yeah thats the biggest problem i have lol im sure you have read my slip of the tongue post in my new pics thread. I love handling snakes far too much as well, but you do have to have self control lol. They are very active and are great to watch eat as you can see their fangs in some and watch the venom run a little bit. I know im sick hahaha, it is a step in reptile keeping that must not be taken lightly. As even if you dont get bitten and want to sell them they are extremely hard to get rid of.

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 08:44 AM
Yeah I can imagine they are very difficult to sell on. Lol you aren't sick, I'd say that's gotta be a pretty impressive sight too

percey39
07-22-10, 08:52 AM
They are not hard to sell when people like me are around haha, but i have had drama's with selling off offspring and its just a major headache. As a lot of people lie about experience and you just cant trust them with a hot so you have to not sell to them (this happens a hell of a lot). I could not sell to someone i think is inexperienced as i would feel solely responsible if they were to get bitten. I am more than happy to let someone i believe i can trust handle some of mine when they are wanting to start out and teach the hooking techniques. and basic husbandry.
It is a very impressive sight to see and you show them more respect when you see the amount of venom some throw out.
Its definetely my favourite side of the reptile hobby and im very glad to have taken that step over years ago. In years to come it my become an option for yourself.

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 08:56 AM
:P I doubt it, I can just about get Mark to hold Lola whilst im thawing her food!
As mentioned previously he thinks me buying him a milk is too much of a responsibility for him, so having hots around and me going away for a couple of days, yeah unfortunately can't see that happening :P

Still, one can dream :P

percey39
07-22-10, 09:01 AM
My partner hated the idea as well and thought i would surely die at the start. She has become more used to them now but still doesnt enjoy the times when im in there cleaning and getting them out for some time in the sun. I also go away for work sometimes for 4 weeks at a time and have a very close friend of mine look after them. It was a daunting thing to have to do at the start but i have learnt to whole heartedly trust him and his techniques.
It does limit my holidays and overseas trips as i get far too worried and its a big burden in my eyes to put on my friends shoulder.
Wow we have really taken this thread for ride lol Its great

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 09:10 AM
Lol we have indeed, I like it!

Yeah it is a huge responsibility, if Mark and I were to go away I don't have anyone to look after Lola, let alone WHENNN I get more ;)
Although there is a guy on here that lives about a 15min drive away so perhaps he can babysit :D

percey39
07-22-10, 09:17 AM
Haha i like how you said when you get more. They are extremely addictive. It is very handy to have some one you trust that can take care of you animals while your away.
Im waiting to see if i get another addiction once i get my baby blue lol I think i will. I have never bought monitors for this reason as most of my friends have sold up on all their snakes to keep purely those.

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 09:19 AM
Aww bless, I'd love to have a monitor most of all :( However I don't think it'll ever happen either

Mark:"It's either you have one of those, or you have kids. Choice is yours"

percey39
07-22-10, 09:27 AM
Haha thats hardly fair though. Im sure you can make him change his mind, i know i really wanted a salt water croc 8 months or so ago but my mind was changed by the boss. Im slowly trying to win this one back now as well, but with this new addition being organised as we speak i dont like my chances. Plus my yard has been taken away by our dog now. I was going to build the new shed/croc house there.
As im sure you have noticed im very impulsive with some animals and not so with others haha. I still want that damn croc though

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 09:47 AM
Indeed it isn't fair at all :P However the only person on this planet more stubborn than Mark is ME!

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 09:47 AM
Lol crocs too, totally mental :P

percey39
07-22-10, 09:48 AM

percey39
07-22-10, 10:02 AM

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 10:05 AM

percey39
07-22-10, 10:09 AM

.: Laura :.
07-22-10, 10:11 AM
Well we have plentyyy of room at the moment and a couple of empty vivs so all is looking good so far ;)

percey39
07-22-10, 10:15 AM

me too mate, the only thing is my mrs is now too educated re snake species and roughly what they should look like.not bad considering she could'nt look at a snake when i first got into them..i brought a mates 3 month old retic home and tried to see if i could blag it off as something that dont hit the 12 to 20 feet mark.she was having none of it,right away she went " thats a bloody retic,im not having something thats capable of eating one of our grandkids in my house " so me bringing her into my snakey world has back fired a tad.

like your olive my wifes adopted one of mine as her own.my black and white diamond jungle eve.shes as soft as they come and comes up on the bed and snuggles round the back of my wifes neck under her hair.they both lye in bed watching tv at night.or she'll climb up on the blinds and lower herself down every now and then just to flick her toungue on the tip of my wifes nose.my wife thinks shes the cutest thing shes ever saw.

i'm softening her re retics and scrubs.if i get the attic (loft) of our house kitted out as a snake room she says i can keep what i like up there (as long as its kept locked).re scrubs it didnt help that we took our youngest son who was 8 at the time to a snake show.a guy was selling a massive barneck scrub.he took the lid of the tub and it sat there not interested in all of us gawping at it.then it spotted my son and lifted its head up about 2 and a half foot and looked right at him.never seen a guy put a tub lid on so fast in my life.i swear imo it was sizing my boy up.

one day though i may get my big snake until then im happy with my carpets.oh and when i get a bit of cash together my wife wants her own garter project.that ones on wayne as she's fell in love with sky and flame (dont tell the wife but so did i )

I would love a retic, but from i have seen and experiecned ( mind you very limited ) the scrubs are more active. Retics are a favourite of mine and if we could import species i would have one in a heart beat as well as burm's, green anaconda's and definetely a big african rock python.
Im very jealous shaun if it were me the loft would be on the go as we speak.
Good to hear about your partner getting involved with the hobby too. I would hate to imagie all the hot's we would have here if mine was te same lol

Cheers mate, as you can see he is not overweight and has a lot of muscle on him for such a young snake. The feeding for him has slowed down a bit and will return to a feed every 3 weeks.

Im in the process of getting some banded western browns and a couples of easterns as well. I will attach some photo's as soon as they arrive, they are lightning quick and very intimidating. I have dealt with westerns a couple of times at a friends and cant believe a snake can be so quick.
Also trying to get hold of some more tiger snakes, i have been chasing a mount gambier locale for a while and am also after few other locale too.

These are some pics of the alice springs mulga male im picking up on saturday and another st george mulga aswell.
The alice springs locale will go a whiter colour with the dakr tips on its scales, i just gotta find a pretty lady for him now.
The red on the st george is absolutely insane. I cant wait to breed these guys in 3 or so years.

Haha yeah they make eyes hurt soooo bad at the moment im so excited to get them to their new home. Im also very excited by the future pairing of these two st george locales as i think there will be some absolute hotties in there.

percey39
07-29-10, 01:54 AM
Please inform me about your wood experience

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 01:54 AM
I really can't decide which I like more, as you said the red is insane, but I'm kinda digging the white

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 01:59 AM
Lol wellllllllllll I went wood hunting in the forest behind my parents house, after watching that deadly dozen I was pretty paranoid that I was going to step on an adder as it seemed near perfect conditions to find one and I had bare ankles

Fortunately I came across no snakeys, found some lovely mangled branches and took them back, stripped the bark off down to the white wood and chucked them in the oven for half an hour, checked in on them after 10 or so minutes and there was smoke pouring out of the oven :P
So I ended up with 1 branch 40% black and thankfully the nicer one just had a bit of a tan :P however my antics made the house absolutely STINK for a few days and apparently the oven still smells now after being cleaned twice... I think I did a rather good job if I say so myself :D

percey39
07-29-10, 02:08 AM
Yeah its a hard choice between the two as they both look great, but the alice springs grows a little smaller i think they average between 1.8-2.2m where as the other has been known to reach nearly 3m.
haha good job. I never baked my wood or bleached it. I just give a thorough inspection and quick wipe with hot water then its good to go. I bet your parents love you for the smell.
As i said if you want to pay for my plane ticket i will catch some adders haha

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 02:12 AM
Hahaha I'm sure you would! However the UK is pretty lame for wild snakes as they are sooooooooooo difficult to find, think I've only ever seen an adder twice in my life, and the occasionally slow worm the cats bring me (still counting them even though they are lizards :p) Although saying that Mark got a call whilst he was at work from a patrol team saying that there was a 6ft *poisonous* snake crossing the motorway which apparently turned out to be a rather large albino corn escapee :P

On the wood pie front, yeah they weren't too impressed but oh well, I was going home the next day so it didn't bother me! :D

percey39
07-29-10, 02:19 AM
I dont care it would be good getting to see some new species and have good look around *hint hint*
Haha they are good ones to get told about. I had some one tell me they had an 8 foot tiger in their shed, they max out at 5 or just over. When i got their it was a tiger but was maybe just over 4 foot. He was a stunner too. Put on quite the show and had my mate pooing his pants when holding the bag for me.
Thats the way, just like when you still lived there lol. I used to make quite he mess or cause a lot of trouble and then just dissapear i get told this by my mum all the time.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 02:22 AM
Lol if I could afford the flight I'd be coming to YOU not the other way around :D I keep trying to convince Mark for us to go on holiday to oz but he can't see the appeal in travelling so long to go somewhere where so many things can kill you :P

percey39
07-29-10, 02:26 AM
haha hes right though lol , but thats the appeal of australia. Im going to go work in the middle of oz in 3 weeks. I cant wait i will take my camera as its in the middle of the desert so might find some taipans during the day when i finish work.
Im still deciding where my next holiday will be as i got a very impressive tax return and have been trying to find things to buy or places to go lol. I have already spent 4000 on some new speakers lol now i need a holiday to look forward to oh and of course more snakies woohoo

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 02:31 AM
What is it that you work as?

Lol alright for some! I doubt we'll have a holiday this year but I'll be damned if I don't have a weekend in Amsterdam! If not during the summer then DEFINATELY for my birthday. Even if I have to go on my own :P

Which places do you have in mind to visit?

percey39
07-29-10, 02:39 AM
Im a fitter and turner. I work in a lot of the mines throughout australia and our power stations around where i live. I am meant to be going off shore to work on an oil rig soon as well. The work is pretty boring and it feelslike prison as you are 100'skm from any where and surrounded by men. Most places your mobile phone wont work either lol. The money is the only thing thats keeping me doing it, but then again thats why everyone works MONEY or else no one would.
Ohh amsterdam would be fun lol i have had friends go and my partner, they all loved it especially the mushrooms and smoke at the cafe lol. They missed the tour bus and had to find their own way back to france before their plane left lol, spent 5 more days than they were meant to in amsterdam. I am going to go over the netherlands for the def qon festival in 2012 ( if the world doesnt end ) i was meant to go earlier but friends pulled out damn it. I wanna go to the black metal festival over there as well. God europe has the best festivals and music!!!

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 02:43 AM
Yeah the festivals over here are pretty intense but I don't bother with them I just go to see the bands I like on their own in all their glory.

Yeah I'm going to go for a hench smoking session and to photograph all the street art, the difficult part is going to be talking mark to come with me! (he's a policeman :P )

As for the work situation, you must feel so isolated, cabin fever!

percey39
07-29-10, 02:49 AM
Yeah i am always jealous of the festivals, 300,000 people partying would be intense!!!Haha yeah i guess it goes against police policies lol. My friends took some great shots of some of graffiti and also of needle park i think they said its called that. Wow there is some crazy things going on in there, it doesnt help when a lot of their pictures were of weird looking people they became friends with.
Yeah its a pretty crazy feeling when you know there is no civilisation for a further 300km around you. You cant even really see anything other than a few small bushes and sand. You dont pay for anything though which is good and most of my time is spent at the bar after work.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 02:57 AM
You must be gone for rather long periods of time right?

Berlin is another place I wouldn't mind visiting over a weekend, again lots of street art and weird things to see, not to mention some pretty fantastic raves :P

So after your latest delivery how many snakeys will that put you at?

percey39
07-29-10, 03:03 AM
Yeah gone for any where between 2-6 weeks which sux but heavily compensated for it.
Damn you being able to do all these things and travel to all these great places at the drop of a hat and for stuff all money. Raves are always fun, but not when you go a bit too silly lol.
Hmm it will put me at lots lol and only have minimal pythons

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 03:09 AM
Lol can't help being a bit of a free spirit, pretty much always been like it, don't give a **** about money, just gotta do what you have to do to not take life too seriously :D

Hahaha yeah on the rave front back in the day I went pretty wild, my weekends went like this for a solid year: Friday- rave 8pm-6am, after party rave 6am-12pm, sleep 1pm-5pm. Saturday, repeat process. Sunday- sleep it off.

percey39
07-29-10, 03:15 AM
Haha thats it ey. You always need money though. Haha reminds me of a few years ago i used to spend thursday night through sunday at clubs and only go to a mates house to have a shower and change and a heart starter lol. They used to have a good night life in melbourne where there was some where open on thursday till 7 friday morning then another would open till 11 that night, then off to another saturday till 11 next morning and then back to antoher club till 11 sunday night. God i used to hate going to work on monday lol I couldnt do it any more. I still enjoy going out but NOT that much lol
I used to really love a good shuffle lol but have now grown out of that and mainly go out to catch up with long lost mates.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 03:20 AM
Yeah the only way I used to make it through the weekend was with a hefty party prescription :P

Haven't done that in years though, now I much prefer to just sit, chill and smoke.

Do you actually have your own thread on here with pictures of all your collections?

percey39
07-29-10, 03:25 AM
Not a massive smoker anymore meself but occasionally will to enhance a chick flick at the movies lol its always better that way.
I have a thread with a little bit of my collection on it. I have only really posted some of my collection, there is one with some pics of a couple of olives and scrubbies on it and another with a few hot's. The thread with the hot's pics is called "new pics" thread i think. One day i will post pics of my entire collection but im pretty paranoid after a few mates had their entire collections stolen.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 03:30 AM
 what the hell, there are some weirdos out there! Totally understand the paranoia. Ah I don't even bother with chickflicks, what you need to do is have a smoke and watch Science of Sleep, that'll trip you out big time :P

percey39
07-29-10, 03:34 AM
Yeah it was a shattering as I was supposed to be getting a reddish scrubby off a guy and his got stolen as well. Some people have lost $50,000 or more worth of retiles over here.
Might have to get this movie you speak of haha. Youtube can be just as fun watch rubber johnny by aphex twin lol or the good old saladfingers and trent fom punchy haha all are classics.
I will show more of my collection over time, but will always keep a few to myself.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 03:42 AM
Lol salad fingers, I used to watch that, and Mr Stabby.

Yeah Science of sleep is a very weird one, definately worth getting from amazon.com or something, will probably be rather cheap as its not a popular movie.

So which is your favourite handling snake? (hopefully none of your hots :P )

percey39
07-29-10, 03:50 AM
Sasquatch dumpling gang is a great one as well and all b grade zombie horror movies are the bomb.
Hmm thats a tuff one. Mine would be my scrubbies, but on a whole proberly the olive in this thread. The scrubs are more alert and fascinating and really are very impressive to hold. The olives are great and this guy is as tame as can be.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 03:56 AM
Lol yes the sofa hogger, the pictures still make me laugh! I think my next snakey might have to be a bigger one than Lola. Still working on making her my attack snake, however she's still not tagged Mark yet, the cloest she gets is perching herself on my hand and staring at him whilst he's sitting next to me. Although I think I have no worries about Mark eventually claiming her as his own as he *doesn't have time* to spend as much time with her as I do apparently :P
Had her out whilst watching avatar the other day, she's taken to climbing into my top and going to sleep there, or just falling alseep on me in gerenal.
Speaking of which I hope he remembers to feed her today or he shall feel my wrath!

percey39
07-29-10, 04:05 AM
If you want an attack snake get a scrub and dont tame it at all. Then it will tear the face off anyone. Im sure lola will bite one day soon they all do. Im still waiting for the couch snake to bite me he has not ever attempted to yet.
Im sure you will love a big snake as long as you get one from the start/when its small and then grow accustom to it as it grows you should be fine ( this realy sounds weird ) They are not as intimmidating as yo think they will be. In saying that the first time i held a biggie it hissed and i got really nervous lol.

percey39
07-29-10, 04:07 AM
Just started watching the sasquatch dumpling gang again after talking about. It is awesome lol watch the clip on youtube if you havent seen it before.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:10 AM
Lol I doubt it, she's very mellow despite still being a baby. She's never musked or bitten, however she did headbutt me a couple of times the first day I got her home and out of her lil container into the viv :P

I'll have a quick look now as I've never heard of it let alone seen it

percey39
07-29-10, 04:16 AM
Haha i get pee on me a lot with one of my scrubs lol i cant believe she can drink that much water and it stinks. I hope she stops before she reaches maturity lol or else im really gonna have one massive golden shower.
I will throw carpets out there again for your next snake lol

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:16 AM
YouTube - The Science of Sleep (trailer) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUCrM5i_W3c)

Check that out, the trailer kinda tries to make it out as a bit of a sappy movie but it totally isn't :D

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:18 AM
Lol sounds like you have a kinky snake on your hands!

percey39
07-29-10, 04:24 AM
haha yeah pee and biting next it will be chains and ball gags lol. That clip looks alright makes me think it could be slightly confusing to tell whats a dream and reality. life in 3d lol

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:28 AM
Lol indeed, hence why watching it stoned proper messes you up! Makes you feel like you dreamt the whole movie and can't remember what it's about.
Hahaha dominatrix snake

percey39
07-29-10, 04:31 AM
haha sounds like a good movie. Yeah i might call her that from now on princess dominatrix haha as her name is princess cos she used to bite so so much

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:33 AM
Or you could call her Mistress :P

percey39
07-29-10, 04:36 AM
Hmmm your pretty good at this arent you!!

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:37 AM
Lol yes I like to think of myself as a good animal namer actually :P
Got any more that need naming? :D

percey39
07-29-10, 04:39 AM
yeah i do actually those two new ones and my female st george mulga.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:41 AM
Any ideas for them so far?

percey39
07-29-10, 04:45 AM
Red riding hood for the female maybe as she hoods a fair bit and she red. Or red for short

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:47 AM
Yeah Red is such a sweet name, I approve! I quite like Lumi for the alice springs as he looks rather luminous :D

percey39
07-29-10, 04:50 AM
Yeah now i need a name for the male. Lumi is good i was also thinking milkyway but will go with lumi instead

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:55 AM
Lol you could always call him Nigel :D

percey39
07-29-10, 04:58 AM
Yeah it could suit but i think he looks a little too angry to be a nigel haha

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 04:59 AM
Angry?? Nonsense he looks like a little petal to me

percey39
07-29-10, 05:00 AM
Haha a petal on crack lol maybe blaze

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:02 AM
Nah blaze makes him out to be a chilled slow moving stoner snake :P

Call hiiim.... MOOSE!

percey39
07-29-10, 05:04 AM
haha why moose, convince me and it will be done

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:06 AM
Because everyone knows that a moose is a magical creature, some actually believe that mooses alone hold the power to travel back in time and have the ability to alter the fabric of space and time! He looks like the kinda snake that could also possibly at one point in his life travel back in time so therefor he should be named.. MOOSE!

percey39
07-29-10, 05:09 AM
Hmm you make a valid point and so it is done moose, lumi and red. They are the names

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:13 AM
And so it is done, and there will be much rejoicing!

I think we did well, you have some good names there :D

percey39
07-29-10, 05:18 AM
I do indeed, now you have to buy some more snakes that i get to name as its only fair.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:19 AM
This is very true indeed! And I get paid next week :D What a coincidence :P

percey39
07-29-10, 05:23 AM
Well then it seems i will have to sit back ere on my kangaroo in oz and think of a name for the pom's new snake or snakes

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:24 AM
:P what on earth is a pom

percey39
07-29-10, 05:27 AM
Haha your a pom, thats what we call the english but im sure you already knew that

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:30 AM
Surprisingly I didn't :P But I guess I do now!

percey39
07-29-10, 05:33 AM
Haha you learn something new every day. I cant wait to post pics of moose, lumi and red now. Red and moose should make a lovely couple in time. I think this thread may need to renamed though

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:34 AM
Yes I agree, soon it shall be The Chronicles of Percey

Why is your forum name percey anyways? It's not your actual name right?

percey39
07-29-10, 05:39 AM
Haha or maybe "huge converstion thread between only two members"
Oh my screen name is silly. My actual name is aaron percy but when i played footy i got a custom jersey it was meant to have percy #39 on it and when i got it, it said percey39 so thats what i have been known by for a little while.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:40 AM
Aren't Australians supposed to play rugby? :P

percey39
07-29-10, 05:42 AM
Haha no thats only for maori's lol but i play afl we call it footy though. My whole family is from the land of the long white cloud though and was told i have to play rugby to be a man.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:46 AM
Hahaha well rugby does look pretty hardcore, everyone is hench!

percey39
07-29-10, 05:48 AM
Haha yeah true but they are mosty maori's lol and im pretty pale so i would look really weird playing it lol

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 05:50 AM
How on earth can you be pale living where you are!

percey39
07-29-10, 05:52 AM

percey39
07-29-10, 05:56 AM

percey39
07-29-10, 05:58 AM

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 06:00 AM

percey39
07-29-10, 06:12 AM
Bora bora was good for drinking and snorkling and you can combine the two but man once you jump in it gets very interesting thats for sure.

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 06:15 AM
Ibizas most famous beach is also called bora bora, man that was a heavy night, I fainted from dehydration in the middle of Pacha right in front of pete tong (he did the music for human traffic) and was carried out by a bouncer lol sooooo very embarrassing

percey39
07-29-10, 06:17 AM

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 06:18 AM

YouTube - Chemical Brothers - Saturate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agb-oFZjuGM)

.: Laura :.
07-29-10, 06:58 AM
We don't particularly, just on big club nights they have spotters for the website dontstayin.com and I just happen to be photographed most of the time

You should go on it, its essentially a huge calendar of whats going on in the country you live in every day/night of the week, and you cal filter the results to which genre of music the place will be playing

percey39
07-29-10, 07:01 AM
I think there are few photos of me shuffling on the bass station website and also bubble nightclubs site haha they ar very distubing photo's of my past life.

YouTube - Infected Mushroom-Classical Mushroom-Bust A Move (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU5cAIC-lK4)

Dont get me wrong, it has a very sexy drop but a liiittle monotonous for my likings, I'll dig out something nice and heavy that I like listening to

percey39
07-29-10, 07:18 AM

I would love to go and see all those countries, but good old mummy doesnt pay for me anymore, as im independent now lol. She was the one who paid for most of those holidays i mentioned lol, but i did pay for bora bora so wil have to start saving my money instead of blowing it.
Im thinking with my tax i might go up to the great barrier reef again and possibly go to japan as i have a freind who recently moved over there and bought a bar.

Also laura i have a few names ready for when you get these snakes, but i will have to wait and see what they are before i can make my final decision. They are super-duper awesomeness though

.: Laura :.
07-30-10, 05:07 AM
Interesting.. lets hear the possibilities then :D

percey39
07-30-10, 06:37 AM
Nah i cant give away my ideas yet, you will just have to these snakes sooner

oh come on dont boo me, the juice is worth the squeeze. You only have to buy the snakes now

.: Laura :.
07-30-10, 06:54 AM
Well, what snakes did you have in mind whilst coming up with these names?

percey39
07-30-10, 06:58 AM
Well as you know there was carpets in there as well as some of the smaller boas and a couple i will keep secret for now

percey39
07-30-10, 07:04 AM
Heres one i had thought of for a female diamond. Marilyn as diamonds are a girls best friend

.: Laura :.
07-30-10, 07:12 AM
Lol yes yes carpets I know! I am growing rather fond of them though, so beautiful to look at

percey39
07-30-10, 07:17 AM
Yeah they are plus they are arboreal and very active.

I forgot to mention i had my first experience at a hippie commune today. My friend bought a car off one. Very interesting place and all self sufficient with 620 acres and 60 self sufficient houses. Very strange people though lol

.: Laura :.
07-30-10, 07:21 AM
I agree they would look very cool in the dungeon viv but if I were to get one I'd feel bad having it in a viv that isn't very tall

percey39
07-30-10, 07:24 AM
Yeah, but thats how you sneak them in. You buy a young snake that will grow out of the viv's you have so you have to buy another viv and still have room for one more snake. Most carpets are still happy in a 4'x2'x2' though

.: Laura :.
07-30-10, 07:27 AM
What sort of lighting/heating do you use with them?

percey39
07-30-10, 07:32 AM
In a 4'x2'x2' i use just a normal light globe for day light and a 60watt incandesent globe for heating. I place a perch in the cool end as well as one 6-7'' under the heat globe. They are very basic to care for as you only need a hot end/spot around 30-34 degrees celcius for most species and a cool end any where from 18-23 degrees this allows for a pretty good gradient. I have gotten away with a 40 watt globe for these size tanks as well. Its a very cheap and easy set up, most dont have specific humidity needs really only gtp's and scrubbies do have specific humidity needs.

a non light emitting ceramic set up will do a carpet just fine if you get one pal

I picked up my new mulga's moose and lumi yesterday. Moose is a hell of a lot bigger than i thought he would be. He would be close to 80cm and very angry lol, but that could just be jet lag.
Lumi is in shed but also looks very healthy. I will grab some pics when i get the chance as im still letting them settle a bit and waiting for lumi to shed, so his colours can pop a bit more.

Cheers Shaun, i cant wait to sink my teeth into breeding these guy's. It is still so far off but the reds on the two st george locale will produce some absolute hotties. I will struggle to sell them as i will want to keep them all lol

Percey, how did you end up with a tame olive python? Everything I've read on them says they are murderous, strike happy monsters. Beautiful snakes though, and I'd love one someday. I have a serious thing for [I]Liasis[I] faces...love those eyes and streamlined raptor-look.

Hi Kim,
All the olives i currently own are as tame as can be and only ever get aggressive at feed time. I have dealt with some nasty ones that friends own and they are very fun and hurt a lot as the go straight to feed mode.
I think they are extremely tame and placid as a whole and would highly recommend them to anyone who is after a snake between 2.7m-4m they really are gentle giants. Maybe you have read articles tht have confused olives with water pythons ( now they a bitey little things ) i dont like them as much but they are still very beautiful and stay a little smaller.
In saying that both these species are generally better than scrubbies. I only have one scrub which i can actually go in with my hand and hold the rest want my face on a plate, its very interesting as i try not to disturb them much but still want to kill me.

Had a bad couple of days recently. Two of my younger tigers that i have posted previously have died recently. Both seemed very healthy and active up a couple of weeks ago when the first passed on. I found this odd and had the vet look at it and she had a small tumor on her lungs and this was determined the cause of death. Then i had the male pass on saturday showing all the signs of the first. I have had the vet have a look at this guy as well. He also had a tumor but this was on the liver.
I have found this to be quite strange to have two snakes from the same pairing both having tumors and both passing in a short period. I am just wondering if anyone else encounted this, i have had conversations with many on deformities in line breeding but as these snakes were of line breeding heritage was wondering if it is possible this may have led to the tumors over time.
This is really strange and frustrating as i really liked both of these guys and im quite concerned about this.

I'm so sorry to hear of your losses, Percey. It's always hard to lose them. I have heard of genetic problems possibly being heightened by line breeding, but many of the nicest cleanest snakes are of line bred descent. And there are also many lines that have no problems. I think it depends on who originated the line and how selective they were in picking individuals to breed back in. If you can find out if any of the other members of the line (parents, siblings, etc) had tumors that might help you.

Thanks its the part about keeping any animals which makes you second guess doing it in the first place. I am in contact with the breeder about this to see if there is an underlying issue through out this lot. I will let you know as soon as find out any more infomation.

08-03-10, 03:42 PM
So sorry to hear about your recent losses Aaron :( however I am anxiously awaiting the pictures of the new arrivals :)

percey39
08-03-10, 07:13 PM
Thanks Laura, I was really upset by losing both of them in such a short period. I have heard of a locale of tiger that have a blueish grey banding and markings, so i will be looking for some of those now.

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 01:34 AM
Yeah it's a massive bollocky coincidence how they both passed, but by the sounds of things you'll be just fine :)

I'd be interested in seeing what a bluey/grey tiger looks like, I've seen Siberians but thats just black and white as opposed to blue and grey :P

percey39
08-04-10, 01:43 AM
Haha bit of a joker ey. Im keen to get some but im struggling to find anyone who is kepping them yet alone breeding them

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 01:47 AM
yes i do like to think of myself as rather amusing at times

what? no one around as crazy as you? shocking indeed :P where did you see these magical tigers anyway?

percey39
08-04-10, 01:51 AM
Haha there is plenty of more mental people than me, but i think these guys might be rather rare in captivity. I hope some one has some they want to part with though. I have seen photo's of these in the wild before and will be going in search come summer time as langwarrin is 40 mins away

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 01:53 AM
Byyyyyyyyy the way I have made the final decision on what snake im getting for the dungeon, not a python I'm afraid :P I'm gonna get a pueblan milk however there seems to be a distinct lack of hatchlings around at the moment

percey39
08-04-10, 01:57 AM
Ah a milk snake, they are very pretty. What about yearlings as they are always good feeders and have generally already gone through their phases where they go off food.

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 02:04 AM
I'd be up for a yearling also, but same deal again :( I'm just going to have to wait till I spot one and nab it straight away

Sooooooooo.... what shall we call it :D

percey39
08-04-10, 02:08 AM
Maybe moo moo or moe as you get a milk moustache when you drink milk

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 02:11 AM
Hahahaha I highly doubt Mark will refer to it as moo moo :P

percey39
08-04-10, 02:29 AM
haha you never know. It would definetely suit for the name or daisy

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 02:32 AM
I do quite like the name Moo if it's a little boy, grrr so frustrating that I'm going to have to wait, I want one nowww

percey39
08-04-10, 02:35 AM
Yeah i feel your pain im the same way with chasing these tigers. Maybe you could buy another snake to tie you over till your milk arrives

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 02:38 AM
Well I do have an empty nursery.... Would have to be something small though. Perhaps next month as I'm going to use some of this months pay to kit out the dungeon ready for Moo and I know if I get another right away I'll just blow everything on spoiling the newbie

percey39
08-04-10, 02:46 AM
Haha its always the way though, i by my pythons a lot of fake greenery when i get them. I will spending big dollars on the new scrub tank on both greenery and fake ferns as well as a waterfall lol i think im going over board but as it will be in the lounge it has to look good.
So you might call it moo

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 02:49 AM
Same with Lola's enclosure, I seem to be forever buying more green to put it in when I have spare money for the same reason, does look amazing in our living room though so no doubt I'll continue to do so till I'm finally happy with it.

Yeah I'm liking Moo

percey39
08-04-10, 02:52 AM
Haha nice name i think. Yeah when you have a feature enclosure you have to put money into it. I was thinking about making a wall mounted enclosure soon and possibly buying a gtp to put into to it but with the size that big tank and the new speakers coming i will most likely not do it.

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 02:58 AM
Ah the speakers, yeah I'd have to agree with you there. Buy a nice free standing glass enclosure instead and also have that in the living room :)

percey39
08-04-10, 03:02 AM
Hmm maybe, but i dont know about putting more in the lounge room, maybe on the wall at the end of the bed if im aloud!!

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:05 AM
Is your lounge rather small then? Wish I could make my own enclosures but I'm useless with wood and really can't be arsed :P

percey39
08-04-10, 03:11 AM
Nah but that tank is 2m long x 1.9m high x 1.4m deep and the new speaker are 1.2m high x 0.65m wide x 0.6m deep, so all those combined unless i made the tank into a coffee table as well it would nearly cramp my style.

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:15 AM
:P Point taken, that enclosure is huge! What's going in it?

percey39
08-04-10, 03:20 AM
2 big scrubbies will be going in there. Im trying to decide on the paint, im thinking a metallic purple inside and metallic black outside

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:22 AM
Purple is good, however do you not think it might be a tad dark?

percey39
08-04-10, 03:27 AM
Nah as im getting my mate around fully wiring 3 down lights in there for day lights and using incandescent lights for heat with ceramics and heat tape.

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:29 AM
Fair enough :) Purple is good then, why black on the outside?

percey39
08-04-10, 03:31 AM
So if anything goes wrong the truth will be inside the black box lol i just love the black enclosures

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:32 AM
:P ha ha

Sounds like the finished result will be pretty sweet looking

percey39
08-04-10, 03:37 AM
Yeah it should but it will have cost me over $2000 by the time im finished and get all the things i want for them to play on

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:42 AM
Being the English equivalent of... ?

percey39
08-04-10, 03:47 AM
it would be 1,146.93

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:49 AM
 what exactly are you going to spend that much on? Diamond encrusted hides?

percey39
08-04-10, 03:54 AM
Haha nah not that shiney. Im putting a waterfall from floor to ceiling in it with a pond as well as a massive fake fern, big tree braches and all the wood that went into the tank with the wheels was a quarter of that price alone. The wheels will support 400kg of weight so i might of went a bit overboard lol

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 03:59 AM
Lol you don't say! I've designed Lola's enclosure decor and that's only come to £50! And thats pretty full up

percey39
08-04-10, 04:04 AM
Yeah thats it lol and i custom made the hides as well lol Im going to mount some large black tubs on the roof that i can slide in and out to clean as well as wood ones i can lock them in so i can clean the enclosure

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 04:06 AM
That's a good idea, can be a bit of a pain trying to clean Lola's enclosure out without using a hoover

percey39
08-04-10, 04:09 AM
I hate when they poo straight into their new fresh water lol that really annoys me

.: Laura :.
08-04-10, 04:11 AM
Luckily Lola has never decided to take a dump in her water :P she's a very clean little girl

percey39
08-04-10, 04:19 AM
Oh that day will come lol its pretty yucky as it floats and goes everywhere
