Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

Please close the thread. I had found homes for all my dekay's and am no longer doing anything with the species. Mostly because I got tired of digging up worms for them. I have seen since that walmart...

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

Hahaha. They were great beginner snakes for me but I've moved on to bigger and better(in my opinion) snakes and other reptiles/amphibians. After about 3 years of digging up 50 earthworms every other...

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

Sorry I do not have anymore. I had only bred them this year for the guy who started this post and then he was no where when I had them.

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

No insect larvae. I just find small common earthworms and/or grey worms that I dig up. You can gauge the size of the worm seeing the size of the snake. Something like 2 inches long and not too fat is...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

I have since had a similar issue with the one lizard I have in a tank solo. Zilla Caloric supplement and appetite stimilant is working for him. If I had known about this stuff I could've saved the...

Re: Any American Toad Keepers?

You'd be surprised how big of bugs they will eat. I have one big toad that comes on the porch at night and I've seen him eat multiple of those really big june bugs in an evening. Unfortunately he...

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

I still have plenty. 5x more 2019 babies and about 12x 2020 babies. The 2020's are getting bigger(4-5 inches long, 1/8 inch wide) but still would require someone dedicated to get smaller worms for...

Re: getting a snake

I've seen some "field collected" stuff listed on their sites. Perhaps that's the "many of". They had a good BBB page and all. My 3 snakes were listed captive bred. I'm not sure about them being...

Re: Any American Toad Keepers?

If it were a green frog or bull frog then those tadpoles take years to turn into a frog.
Found a decent tadpole guide:...

Re: Any American Toad Keepers?

The insects aren't a pain. Crickets escaping can be annoying. I do my own fruit fly cultures and everything.

I don't know if I'd be a good example on quantity since I have a lot of insect...

Re: Using wild isopods... Just how risky is it?

Wild isopods have caused zero problems with my dekay's brown snakes. Except maybe that I never see poop/urates so If I wanted to examine them I'll never find them. I have dwarf whites in with them...

Re: getting a snake

I've had a lot of success ordering from snakesatsunset.com. I've ordered 3 snakes from them. All arrived alive and are doing great. My only complaint would be that one of them refuses to eat anything...

Re: Any American Toad Keepers?

I have one single fowler's toad. He's about 1.5-2 inches and orange or rust colored. I believe they are similar and actually interbreed if I remember correctly. I keep mine in a 10 gallon tank with...

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

The crickets could hurt them. Tail nibbles and such. I feed mine regular earthworms mostly and offer appropriate sized slugs/snails when I can. I will hit you up on email. I have plenty of 2019 and...

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

Probably the young adult. The babies require tiny worms which I can't find anywhere but harvesting them outdoors and are not suited for any handling being so small(2-3 inches long and about 1/16 inch...

Re: Looking for captive bred DeKay’s brown snakes!

I have 18 babies this year. Three litters. The oldest are about a month old, the youngest are about 2 weeks. This batch is captive bred from captive bred parents. I don't sell them or anything but...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

98 degrees at basking spot, 78 degrees at top of tank (center of both basking spots) which is on par per their care sheet. I didn't realize how serious the issue was and thought I could handle it...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

Monday or tuesday was the first I noticed her stomach looking sunken in. Then she started to look better and then she quickly declined over the week. She didn't make it. There was weird grey looking...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

She isn't going to make it... Barely moving or breathing. Even if I touch her. Any idea what happened? I suppose I should've vetted instead of trying to get her better on my own. I've dealt with...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

Might be too late. She's not eating. I can see that now that I have her isolated. Didn't have a chance during the work week. She hasn't been very active today except when I was handling. They are...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

I have a 50w uvb/uva heat bulb for each basking spot on either side of the tank, these are 6-8 inches over a reptihammock. I don't know the exact temperature of the basking spot, should be around 90...

Re: What is wrong with my lizard? Starting to worry

She's acting fine but definitely doesn't look it. Hasn't been an issue in the time I've had them. Over a year, they were little 2 inch lizards at first. I feed in the evening while the big girls are...

I have one out of 5 lizards in a tank that over the last week is starting to look grim. They are fence lizards (sceloporus undulatas), similiar to an emerald swift. She has shrunk up and her sides...

Re: Problems removing 1 stuck shed piece

He shed everything all on his own. The particular scale that was stuck looks kind of grey though. It's not shed though. I'm sure of it.
