Unhappy R.I.P. Mojo - Misinformation mascot

I already know some of you all are following this thread, but I feel it is important enough that I would like to share it here with you as well.

Follow Mojo the Savannah Monitor who is succumbing to the results of misinformed husbandry.

Rescue monitor: The results of poor husbandry.

Re: The story of Mojo - Misinformation mascot

So has the cause of the blockage been identified? I'll admit I haven't read all the posts but from I can tell he was already found with the problems?

Bob (The vet tech owner) is keeping us informed.

From what I understand, Monday is operation day.

Most likely scenario, she ovulated, and with no nesting options, refused to lay her eggs and they have begun deteriorating inside her.

That is AWFUL. Every time I see one of these little babies for sale (pet shops and such) I think of this site and how most of them will perish due to innappropriate care. I can't believe how bad the misinformation is. I wonder how it's been this bad for so long...

Mojo's chapter is finished but the story continues to be written. We are the authors, you and I. Witnesses to the tortured existence these brave creatures are subjected to. Their passing, however sad, shall not be without meaning. We will learn. We will educate. We can be better. We MUST be better. For them.

The blockage was caused when her failed kidneys swelled and pinched her intestinal tract.

Re: The story of Mojo - Misinformation mascot

very sad - anything known about the exact (biological/chemical) mechanism which triggers that kind of tumor growth? i guess the poisons which the kidney is supposed to deal with, could be responsible if the kidneys where unable to cope. not a nice way to go

i know that there where calls for people to send their monitors in for post mortem research some time ago, has this particular issue ever arisen before? (not swollen kidneys; bilateral tumors)

found one other case with bilateral kidney tumours

Islet Cell Tumor in a Savannah Monitor

dont have access to the full report

Bob has sent the organs out to a lab for full analysis.

Bottom line, as it has been mentioned before, insufficient temperatures prohibit proper renal tubule function, incorrect husbandry practices destroy their organs.

yep its obvious why it happened, i'm interested in how, as much as why ...lets not stumble into another misunderstanding over my questions lol

will keep an eye out for the results - although if there isnt much known at this point, i'm not sure much more will be known later, we barely understand human cancers, and they get billions of $ in research.
