First snake just died! Welcoming any advice

My first snake, a corn snake, died a few days ago in his water dish. Don't know its birthday but it lived at least 8 years. Obviously I am looking for recommendations as I know nothing of snakes outside of corn snakes in pet stores. Ball pythons interest me, I definitely don't want a big snake. Anyways I'm just here to lurk and learn for a while, any advice for someone new to snake culture and trading/breeding will be greatly appreciated!

dear lf, sorry for your loss and i'm glad you want another snake. it's hard to reccommend to another person what kind is best suited for them. maybe if you visit pet stores or reptile shows, one will really attract you.

I agree with Chz but I would recommend you stay away from pet stores unless you know of a knowledgeable one near you. There have been too many of pet stores give terrible advice that I would recommend heading to one. Not to mention their care tends to be sub-par. This site is a great resource plus there are other snake specific forums that are also good to look into.

Wow, my deepest condolences. Before committing to another snake just make sure to read up on the husbandry requirements of the animal you choose. That can't be overemphasized. Your husbandry and cleanliness of the enviornment is the two most important ways to diminish illness, morbidity and mortality of your animals. Good luck and so sorry for your loss.

Poor snake Ive got a 7 month old corn snake and the only thought I have is that it died of natural causes.

Tough to lose an old friend. Like the others, I avoid pet shops. I've had good luck with independent breeders that have good reviews on faunaclassifieds.
