Same here. Whats worse is when people post a picture to my facebook page showing a mangled Texas Rat Snake and the posters are proud because the "destroyed a deadly rattlesnake."

Sadly, this is all too common.

We were at a festival last weekend, and heard screaming about a rattler. My husband and I go over, and guess what they're actually wailing about?

A gopher snake.

My husband used a cane to safely lift it away and take it to the grassy area behind the vendors.

A lot of the fear of snakes comes from puritanical origins, in America-- where the serpent is seen as a figure of evil. Hilariously, in other cultures, the snake is a symbol of wisdom and healing.

I've encountered that mentality many times. Sadly not all people are rational and as a result hold onto unsubstantiated beliefs..
