Re: A couple questions

Yup, I can also vouch for that. A short, coiled spring releases much more energy under pressure than a slinky does

Re: Housing Carpet Python Pairs?

I recommend separate enclosures - the world just doesn't need any more unwanted baby Carpets, and housing snakes together can be quite problematic :(

Re: Reptile Importation Ethics

My thoughts on this are pretty black and white - I see absolutely no need to take anything from the wild in this day and age. Unfortunately, as long as people do find it acceptable and keep buying...

Re: How would you convince him?

Non-herp types will never understand the 'collection' part, but the key to having someone understand that snakes aren't as distasteful as they may have once thought is education. Once a body learns...

Re: Moving during shed?

Good plan - the smaller the containment during moving, the better. As long as he can curl up in a dark spot for the trip, you're laughing. I'd forego the idea of keeping the humidity up for the trip...

Re: A Rainbow in the Sun....

So nice to see this one! It's the only adult E.c.c. that I've seen which I thought was a proper weight, so I always look forward to seeing him :)

Re: Day/Night Cycle

Dropping temperatures at night is not about breeding. It's about giving the animals a more natural life in captivity and that's always been my approach. Breeding has never been on my mind with so...

Re: Day/Night Cycle

Mine get a drop in temperature at night - always have, always will. It's wholly unnatural to have them at constant temperatures or give them constant light. Nature is all about balance - sunny, hot...

Re: interesting carpet behavior

This is not uncommon behaviour at all. Carpets are relatively intelligent snakes and it's rare that they'd just grab on to f/t food without giving it a good once-over first.

Re: 10 footer info

It can be done, but if you're already questioning your level of commitment to taking the time to try it, perhaps passing on it would be the most sensible thing because at that size, you really don't...

Re: new boa dehydrated?

He's certainly looking good now, and we can throw the idea that he was underfed out the window, lol. Those folds you're seeing are perfectly natural. In fact, you'll notice some vertical 'bend lines'...

Re: new boa dehydrated?

Large folds of skin can also indicate a bad case of underfeeding, which can lead to moulting problems and a host of other issues, so we really do need images before we can help much...

Re: No Poop!

I think you'll find that if you significantly increase the amount of food, it'll start getting more regular

Re: Aspen vs Eco

Oh man, that ugly can of worms would sidetrack this substrate thread, so I'm not going to open it but there are lots of comments on them already in this forum if you search for them :)

Re: Aspen vs Eco

Personally I'd be a *lot* more worried about ingestion of Aspen than anything else. I won't have the stuff in the house and I've never felt it belongs in a reptile tank.

I've never used Eco stuff...

Re: Comparing Columbians

Oh thank goodness you came up with an alternate solution - I was afraid the only solution was for one of us to get 'fixed' and I was afraid it'd have to be me for some reason. I have so much luck...

Well, I'll tell ya, this was no picnic, lol. He really *wanted* to nail me and it came awfully close a couple of times, but thankfully he opted to just buck and huff this time. They have very short...

lol, they're not for everyone, that's for sure. Bubbles (for example) was OK to take out, snap a few shots, put in a spare tub and clean his own tub, but he was very *not* OK being picked up to be...

Part 3 - all from today. If you don't see it, it's moulting or too full to take out for an image. Enjoy :)

Re: Comparing Columbians

Nope, not at all. Since there is such little interest in Rainbow boas in my area that people keep giving them to me (Dusty is the 3rd that's come to me and the one that I did buy for myself cost me a...

Re: Why we call our sunglow"the dumb blonde"

No, I know you have more sense than that, but it's a good example for other folks who might think it'd be a safe thing to reach in to a large constrictor's cage and try to fix the situation. That'd...

Re: Why we call our sunglow"the dumb blonde"

That'll help, and it goes to show how much power they use, even on themselves, and it illustrates why to never get involved in that type of situation. This is a really good example of that :)

Re: Why we call our sunglow"the dumb blonde"

Oh geez no, never get involved in a situation like that, lol. She'll figure it out eventually and there won't be any damage except for a couple of little scrapes that'll fix themselves with a moult....
