Just wondering if rubs are safe to use with a heat mat, since they are made from plastic. I don't have much space which is why I'm thinking of using Rubs but I don't know if they are safe to use with heat mats.
The melting point of most rubs made of polypropylene or polyethylene will be 250° F or greater. If your heat mat is getting that hot then your critters will be dead no matter what cage material you're using.
Control the heat mat with a thermostat with a probe placed between the mat and the bottom of the cage and you should be fine.
If you're using a good quality tstat and make sure the probe is not knocked loose, you should be totally fine. There are probably hundreds of thousands of bins running this way all around the world.
