Ripped Scales?

On the bottom of my snake (BRB) has ripped scales on the bottom, the whiter part. It's not mites. Is that okay? Will it fix itself over time? If I need to do anything, what do I need to do to fix the problem?

Thanks!

Re: Ripped Scales?

what are you using for substrate? could it have caused the problem? I would put him on paper towels until it clears up...just my .02 but I am not an expert...

No... I just changed out my substrate, from a full clean. But I am currently in the processes to dampen it..

Re: Ripped Scales?

Could you post pics of the ripped scales? What type of enclosure are you using?

Re: Ripped Scales?

its the brown spot by the thumb on the left... is it red or swollen? more than likely it will heal and go away after next shed.. just keep an eye on it make sure it doesn't spread if it could does it could be start of scale rot but you said your cage is not wet so its prolly not. mine had this one time and i just waited it out and it was gone after shed.. could also be a burn but as was stated before you cant see the photo very well.

I don't think it's a burn, but what do I know? lol If It is scale rot, what are other signs I need to be looking out for?

Re: Ripped Scales?

A better picture is a must. If you don't have a better camera try this.go into a bathroom and hold the area to be photographed in the bright light with a white background. Use a piece of paper. Get as close as you can and it is still in perfect focus. Take a few and post. Even if that little spot is scale rot with it being that small it is very treatable.

Re: Ripped Scales?

With the crappy pic it LOOKS like the start of scale rot.

Re: Ripped Scales?

Okay hold up with all the things you guys have just said. Is color loss a symptom? I just got him out to show him to my sister and he has 'eyes' on the side of him, like most brbs have, and usually he has color past them. But when I got him out, he was on the cool side like he usually is (His temps aren't too high) his red/brown/orange color was not past the 'eyes' and instead was white. [IMG][/IMG]
