Re: Can anyone tell me what kind of snake this was?

Welcome to the forum.

I want to help, but your flag says Croatia & your IP address says Canada.

Please tell us where exactly this snake was photographed. Thanks.

I third it~ We don't have that many big snakes around here, and I don't know of anything else it could be in that picture.
I've never seen one of these in person, but I know they're around Ontario. They are non-venemous. Although I belive they tail rattle in defense, just like some other snakes do.

If you're in Canada and the snake doesn't have a rattle then you aren't going to die.

They don't actually look much like garters at all, more like bullsnakes/rat snakes in my opinion.. Either way I don't think I've ever seen them offered for sale.. I thought there was something about them being protected? Anyone confirm this?

Just looked it up. They are endangered. The pattern reminded me of a garter but the build is ratsnake yeah. Gorgeous in any case.

The pattern is nothing like a garter though
