Field Herping Advice for NY

My girlfriend and I are going out this weekend in hopes of seeing some decent herps. I've got a small idea of a place to see some Timber Rattlers but we're not going that way as I'd prefer some decent boots before I did that and well...my girlfriend is not exactly an expert on watching her step ha. Anyway, I'd most like to see some ringnecks as I've never actually seen one in the wild. Loads of garters, water snakes and copper heads along with some different turtles. Ringnecks are tops on the list though. If anyone familiar at all with the capital region or any points within an hour or so in any direction of it could drop some decent locations on me it would be very much appreciated.
