I thought the Ring was great, best one I've seen in a long time.
I finally got up the courage to watch Ju-on but it disappointed me. With all the hype I thought the movie was gonna scare me into a mental institution but in the end the last scene from The Blair Witch Project was scarier. I don't know about you guys but seeing the guy standing in the corner is one scene I don't think I'll ever forget; I'm getting goose bumps thinking about it while I type.......next house I get built won't have any corners...lol.

Night of the living dead scared me when i was a kid.
Also Pet sematary, for some reason.
Today, anything from the mind of Clive Barker is good for me. The guy is unique, he doesn't follow the usual horror clichets (ghosts, vampires, etc) but creates a fantasy universe of it's own, wich becomes the basis for his stories.

I really liked The Blair Witch Project. The fact that you never saw anything and hearing those creepy baby crying noises at night made it totally scary. Try watching that for the first time then going camping in the middle of Algonquin park the next day. You will never walk alone in the woods again. hehe

Damn I forgot about white noise.....I'm def. more into the ones that mess with your mind over the pure visual gory movies. I also liked Blair Witch, I remember the hype it produced when it came out. Everyone I saw it with came out saying it wasn't as good as they thought it would be but judging by the fingernail marks my buddy and I had in our arms from our girlfriends I think it was just a little scary.

I'm not surprised nobody has mentioned this one yet, it's not a well known film.. but PUMPKINHEAD was absolutely the best horror movie of all time, bar none. It sounds like a lame title, but if you see it, rent it. You will not be disappointed. The effects were great, the story was BRILLIANT, the cinematography was absolutely perfect, and the end has you going "AAAAAAAHH! I didn't see that coming!" Oh, and it has Lance Henrikson in it. He's a phenomenal actor.
I thought The Ring sucked, but that last 10 minutes almost made me poop myself. So I'll say it was "ok".
And I don't care what anyone said about it, I thought the conceptual horror or the Blair Witch Project was bone chilling. Especially because I watched it at a drive-in. Talk about authenticity.....
RON - You know what else people didn't notice about the Blair Witch? When Heather found Mike's teeth and his toungue wrapped up in his own jacket... then he started yelling for them. How could he have done that with no teeth or tongue? Scaaaaaaaary.
Others I loved:
The Grudge
The Exorcist
Gothika
The First Power (from the late 80s - Lou Diamond Phillips. Great film!)
Witchboard
What Lies Beneath (That movie genuinely scared the crap outta me)
Stir of Echoes
The list goes on and on and on... but trust me on Pumpkinhead.

The shining, excorsit and believe it or not, JAWS scared the living hell out of me when I was younger

What Lies Beneath, I found really good too.
I can't believe I forgot Halloween... I found it really creepy.
I also agree on Jaws, and I have to bring up The Duel because it was the first scary Spielberg movie I saw.

I am NOT a horror fan of any kind. I actually laughed and got up at most of the movies you guys mentioned. I try to "give myself to the movie" and just get into it, each and every time. But I simply cannot make myself do anything but laugh. I dunno. Some people aren't horror fans I guess
But I must say Gothika was simply amazing. It was a neat story, very original and had me watching every minute. I loved it. Halle Barry was amazing in the movie and I never expected the "twists" in the story.
