1st Eggs!

My beloved lavender snow passed 2 eggs today! I will use this thread for updates on eggs and hopefully my first ever self bred hatchlings! OMG SO EXCITED!

Mom is a laveder mack snow and dad is a lavender bold stripe snow so babies should include macks, bolds, and possibly lavender snow jungles!

Thanks guys! Pics don't do those eggs justice! They are HUGE! Like seriously each one is probably 25% her size (minus her tail)!!!

I candled them as vest as I could. One I clearly saw a vein in, the other I couldn't see anything but figure I'll give it a week or two and check again.

With this being her very first time, I'm not expecting too many full term hatchlings. Kinda surprised the eggs were so massive tbh! I have seen eggs compared to the female before and the general size they come out. These things look like they are all ready 2-3 months old! I checked her hoohoo for any possible damage and she's fine and feisty! A nice change to her previous slow and depressed seeming self lol.

No need to candle. Incubate, if they are bad they will go bad, candling doesnt benefit, and you can easy drop, turn, whatever the egg and kill it. Just cook them and keep an eye on them without playing with them and if one goes bad remove it

I checked them this morning though and saw one starting to dent. I have a feeling that they are both duds. Doesn't surprise me since this is her first clutch, but I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway.

I'll check when I get home. I couldn't find my thermometer last night >_<

I don't have an incubator yet so I am using the method of keeping the container over the UTH in my roach tub and it stays at a toasty 95.

I'll be stopping by wm tonight to get a new thermometer since I can't find mine though so I can temp the actual material they are in.

Considering getting the gecko egg kit thing that comes with delicups, separators, and some incubation materials. This is kind of a last minute 'oops' because she was in with the male when they were younger and I couldn't sex them super well at first. I was originally afraid she was eggbound and she may have retained sperm.

I'm by no means a breeder, so kinda learning as I go...derp derp.

On a side note....any suggestions for good temp gauges from walmart?

They should be incubated between 80-89 depending on which sex you want. 95 is too hot and the eggs are probably dented because they are drying out and cooking. Eggs dont respond well to high temps, they can tolerate below ideal, but at 95 My guess is you already fried them.

The ones I use are at home depot for 10$ and have humidity, temps, and highs and lows listed for both. You could use any temp gauge really, even the ones for cooking.

Well crap....

I'll check the temps when I get home tonight and hope that there's enough between the heat source and the eggs that doesn't have it too hot.

I'm just happy she passed them and stopped making me worry about egg binding. Though if I can get the incubation down I'd be thrilled to have babies lol.

Irony is that this year I was going to work on breeding my cresteds not my leos.
