Re: RTB or Coastal Carpet
A Boa would probably be your best bet. Humidity isnt as much of an issue with them as with BRBs or BPs. They are calmer more handleable snakes as well. They also get to be around 6-7' for a male depending on the locality. There are some Boas that get bigger than that but you should be able to find a locality that fits your needs. Btw BCIs are specifically what you need since they dont get as big as BCCs.

Re: RTB or Coastal Carpet
Two words: Boa Constrictor
Ok, so I'm somewhat biased, but that's my suggestion and I'm stickin' to it!
Get a "True" Red-Tailed Boa. A locality. Surinam, Peruvian Pacullpa, Guyana.. just a few examples.

Colombians are great too! Lucy's been with me since 1996! I wouldn't trade her for the world. Care to meet her? http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/boa-c...file-lucy.html

Re: RTB or Coastal Carpet
I recant my suggestion and feel you should wait. If you got bored with your royal I guarantee you will get bored with just about any other boid. Maybe you should try a garter snake. That's my next species.

Re: RTB or Coastal Carpet
I have both and each are great animals with great temperaments. In all honesty, you can't go wrong with either. Husbandry is a tad bit easier with a carpet as they have no humidity requirements, as Shauny on here told me when I first got mine. Both are great eaters and easy to handle as an adult. I don't have any experience with carpet hatchlings, but BCI hatchlings are usually docile (all of mine were).
It's going to come down to what you're looking for in an animal. If you want one that's got a really good chance of being mellow, one that you can chill out with, go boa. If you want one that thinks it's in a new world each time you get it out, giving you hours of entertainment by never sitting still, or at least for long, making you the mommy of a toddler (because you can't let them go, they get into everything! lol), go carpet. IMHO, carpets have a better personality because of their more curious behavior. Boas are curious, but I don't think it beats the carpets curiosity.
I had a hard time deciding when I got my BCI because I wanted a carpet around the same time too. I chose BCI because of initial affordability and I already had previous experience with them so I knew what to expect. The carpet pretty much fell into my lap as a guy I know wanted to rehome his. She's an adult (unsure of age) and is as much of a delight to interact with as the boa, maybe more so. Her antics outside the cage always make me smile and gives me the giggles. My boa will watch movies with me lol.
Good luck with whatever you decide to get. It's a tough decision.

Re: RTB or Coastal Carpet
I don't know how to say this where it won't be offensive, but i think if you're getting any animal, and then having to give it up for any reason...maybe you shouldn't get any more.
If you think you do truly want another snake though, at least go to the pound or a rescue and see if there's one there you can adopt, rather than buying one from a breeder or store and then possibly having to rehome that one as well in the future.
I have a lot of animals and though i'd love more, i also know I don't want to be place myself in a situation where i have to give one or more up. I got the animal, i agree to take care of it and house it, so....
Why would you get another animal if you've already gotten rid of one as it is?
Is it just because you *want* something? That's not very fair to the critter. Just saying.

I agree. I tried a bunch of things to keep the humidity up for my baby BRB until I got it right. He doesn't deserve to be given up on.

totally agree with this, a snake is a commitment for 20+ years and if you arent prepared to keep the snake in ideal conditions for that length of time then go to a zoo and view them instead.
No animal should be taken on without the intention to keep it for the fullness of its life.
