New cresteds.
I just recieved a male and female "breeding" pair.
They were free with tank, they were living in months worth of dead crickets and waste to make it worse it was a 5g he told me they are more secure in small spaces.
The females tail is limp/floppy, I'm guessing calcium problem or early stages of mbd, I'll upload a picture later. I have seperated them and they are both in seperate 20g for now.
Any tips on keeping these would be appreciated.

Re: New cresteds.
Aww They are adorable. I am so happy that they will have better living conditions now! I have never owned cresties before so I have no real advice to offer besides that I would get them on CGD- Crested Gecko Diet asap. If I am not mistaken that is balanced the best for them and might help get them back to health faster than feeding crickets and what not.

Re: New cresteds.
I love them!
By the way, floppy tail is relatively common in crested geckos. When they hang upside down, their tail flops over and pulls their hips up at a weird angle. Most breeders actually purposefully remove their tails to prevent this, because it actually causes permanent damage to the hips.
By the way, the male is an absolute darling.

Re: New cresteds.
so cute, but looking at the males head they have not been feeding them as much has they should, the top of his head should be filled in more. get some mealworms and that power they eat and they should be too to go.

Re: New cresteds.
This may sound cruel, but go ahead and rip off her tail. It will be better for her in the long run.

Ok I'll upload a picture first to see if that's what should be done. For the healing proces should I keep her on paper towel and aply any cream?

Re: New cresteds.
Paper towels are a yes. I've never heard of people applying any cream to the tails. Most breeders encourage their specimens to drop their tails, because it's healthier for them. There isn't a risk of floppy tail syndrome, and it's actually easier for the animals to breed without tails.
Here's an interesting fact: It was unknown to science that crested geckos were even born with tails until they were introduced to the pet trade, and the first captive bred specimens were hatched.

Re: New cresteds.
AWWWWW I love crested geckos! That's what Gary is.
Yes, oh my they sure can jump. first day I brought Gary home he was supposed to crawl out of his travel container and into the nice tank I had set up for him. Instead he ran out of the container, turned around, ran up my arm and jumped onto my mom's face because she was standing behind me. he made quite the first impression
Gary likes mushed up mango, he licks it right off my fingertips
