CRB Weight

Hello Everyone!

I'm having a few concerns about my columbians weight, and I'm having a hard time confirming age as well. When I got her I was told she was around 5 months, so she should be around a year now. She weighs 81 grams. I'm having a hard time finding information on correct size. She is 38". I will post a few pictures, I don't think husbandry is an issue, she sheds great, temps around 86 during the day 81 at night ,a temp gradient available, humid hide, humidity around 75%-80% . I just feel a little lost and I'm feeling like maybe I was lied to about her age and I was underfeeding? She eats every 7 days , good feeding response. I give her one hopper , she takes it in her hide and doesn't seem interested in a second hopper.. thanks everyone

A year old boa should be eating med rats, if that helps. At least that's how I grow mine. I've got one that'll be 3 in feb and she just started taking the large. At over 3 feet I'd definitely say you can up that baby's meal sizes.

I know this is a different species but my year old hog island boa is eating small to medium rats and he is 37 inches.
Just food for thought.

my 3 and a half foot columbian red tail eats med to large rats and she is close to 2 years old she was missing for 2 months so is a little smaller than I like since she had no meals but she is catching up nicely

Thanks everyone, I'm still trying to load pictures..I'm glad nobody got angry haha. My brother in law has a hog island and he was "the same age" as my rainbow and was double the size .. I guess what is so confusing is the whole "slender boa" idea and knowing it is a smaller species of boa, but being sent home with the wrong size food item makes me mad. What rate do yall suggest upping her meal size? She plays with her food when I give it to her circling from head to tail and back biting both until swallowing. I feed every Sunday

i have a juvi brb that is now about 9 months , 27 inches eating 1 or 2 large hoppers and weight it about 95 grams. I also have have a hog island that is 300 grams and 36 inches that is 24 months. i would start giving 1 or 2 large adult mice (put a blow dry on them for 2 minutes to warm them up and your BRB will eat 2) now and start the switch to small rats asap , but switching may be tough . you can try to rub the mouse on the rat to scent it but it can be a real chore to switch them.

I must apologize I thought you were talking about a common boa not a rainbow.

Tekpc-thanks for the info on your brb. When I took the.columbian home they sent me home with pinkies which I'm finding was too small for her. I plan to give her the last 2 hoppers I have this Sunday, then possibly bump up to the next size up.

Snakeman- the hog island lived with us for a while and we loved him, sweetest snake ever, its been a bit since I have seen him now, I've wanted my own ever since

I've never seen a Brazilian hit mediums by the one-year mark. Most of mine get there between two and three years of age.

I breed Brazilians, lalanz, but feeding should be similar for Colombians. A properly-sized meal is generally as big around as the snake at its widest point. By 80 grams, mine are (usually) on rat fuzzies...pups are too large. A weekly feed is a good schedule for this age. As your snake matures, you will want to cut that back to every other or even third week. Good luck!

Thanks for the input Cliff, the prey size is equal to her girth. I was unsure about the growth rate when I got her and it was hard to find info on them, I usually just see the requirements for brazilians, but only a small sidenote for other rainbows.

I really appreciate everyone's help!

I was gonna say... I've got a girl who's about a year and a half who just made it to smalls.

Rainbows both Colombian and Brazilian are slow grower compare to other boas. They will regurgitate a meal if it's to big. My two year old BRB did it just last week when i try upping him from smalls to mediums. I have a friend with a CRB who the same age as mine, twice as fat, but a foot shorter than my BRB. She just took her first medium and kept it down. If when upping the size they throw it up always wait at least 3 to 4 weeks before feeding again and just go back to the smaller size.
