So a friend of mine said to me " why would a snake be bright and flashy like that?" after seeing one of my JCPs. I told him it was camouflage. He didn't buy it.
Well lay this to rest.
Exactly. The dark is to blend in with shadows and the the bright is to complete the effect by mimicking sunlight coming through those branches whether it be while they're climbing or even on the ground, just as you've demonstrated in pics 3 & 4. Well illustrated
