` The percentage of bogus extended warranties is very high. Many extended warranties written by a third party are bad. If it's not offered by the manufacturer, or their local importer/agent, it's going to be very hard to deal with.
` The mark-up on extended warranties is astronomical. It's just insurance, and just look at the names on the largest buildings in the largest cities to estimate the profit in insurance.
` In the 1980's an extended warranty on a used car less than 2 years old was $1,000. The cost was $50!
` Some people just sleep better with an extended warranty in the drawer. Then, are mad as Hell when they have trouble filing a claim.
` It's sort of like eating in a restaurant. If they want to be paid before you eat their food, look out.

I worked at futureshop. The main reason I quit was because managment pushed so hard for us to sell the 'product service plan'.

Take it is you want. but for 175 bux you'll be able to buy a new camera when the one you just bought breaks. Electronics will have a long life if treated well. The chances of it breaking after the manufacturer warranty is up are low.

MOST DEFECTS IN ELECTRONICS ARE ENCOUNTERED WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF USE. If they make it past then they should last till they are obselete.

My advice;
Save the 175 bux.

Use the hell outta the camera now. Take advantage of all it's features. IF you can find no deffects you're cool.

treat it well. ie don't drop it, get it wet, leave it in the sun, keep it clean,

and have fun.

The future shop warranty doesn't cover user caused problems. If there is a problem they will probly try and blame it on you regardless. I asked many repeat customers while I worked there if they had used it before. 8 out of 10 said they had a problem claiming the warranty. 2 of the ten swore by it and were happy they bought it.

sorry to ramble, but do what you will.

Keep in mind also the sales person gets a percentage of the warranty he/she wells you.
