Albino Monocle Cobra ques.
Hi everyone, again I have come across with the idea of wanting an Albino Monocle Cobra. as I have been looking into them I have found a question for any experienced keepers out there. I have noticed what seems like allot of variation in the albino animals, they seem too vary from Pinks, and oranges, too pure white. Now is it different colored animals or are they born with oranges/pinks and mature too a pure white? Also I have heard tale of Leucistic, does anybody know what they look like I’m assuming white animals with black eyes, and what the price range on one is???
Thanks for any info you can give me,
Devon

Do you seriously think that owning a ball python, 2 boas, and 2 burms makes you anywhere CLOSE to being qualified to safely own a cobra? Dude, if you want to commit suicide, there are better ways to do it.

Devon,
I have to say that you and I are not going to see eye to eye on this topic. The last thing I, and other NB herpers want you or anyone else in NB to do is bring a hot into the province. I'm pretty sure it's illegal but I'm going to find out for sure. On Monday I’ll be calling Fredericton City hall, the NB dept. of natural resources and Bernie Gallant of the Magnetic Hill Zoo in Moncton to find out if in fact it is illegal. If something happens to you or someone else, than you'll ruin it for the rest of us.
I don't know how experienced you are or how long you've been keeping herps, however as far as I’m concerned your level of experience will not change my mind about you or anyone else in NB wanting a hot.
There are no hospitals in NB that carry cobra anti-venom so it will be up to you to find it and pay for it. It’s bad enough people are keeping giants in NB. The last thing I want to see are hots. NB is small and the population is not tolerant of herps. If ever there were an accident we would lose everything for sure.
There are a thousand other animals you can keep with out putting all other NB herpers at risk.

That's what I like to see, people helping each other out..
Leucistic animals are more often than not white with blue/black/grey eyes. Young albinos, like Burms present the orange, pink and yellow colors. Most adult albinos are generally white with pink/red eyes. So as far as Im aware of getting either color while young will generally turn out looking the same as another albino.

By that I'm sure you mean that you are happy seeing me trying to help out the rest of the province of NB herpers buy trying to convince someone not to get something that could put all of us in jeopardy right?

Yeesh! *shakes head* If you got a beef with him getting it, why not just pm him or email. His question was relating to the colours not if he should get it or not. Waste of space posting on here. I'm not at all against your comments Trevor/Ken as I also questioned the idea of him getting a cobra too. Just that it might make for a nicer environment if people just gave answers which are necessary. Kudos to Zane.
Edit: Just to make it clear again, I DO understand your concerns as it's totally legit. Having one person screw it up for the rest is not fun.

I think it would be better to make sure everything is legal before you consider buying hots... If you're truly ready for hots and it's legal for you to own one, maybe you should also consider starting with something less spectacular and/or dangerous than the monocle cobra. I think that would be the only reasonnable way to get into hots, first start with something easy before to take on the big hard ones... Trevor is right that herpers doing irresponsible choices REALLY DO GIVE OTHER HERPERS A BAD REPUTATION. That can harm the hole hobby... The key is to be reasonnable and responsible.

Hi, well I must first thank you all for the help. I’d like too clearify you all on a few things first, I didn’t say I was getting a cobra, I said I was thinking about the species I would love to own one, but don’t think I will be jumping into something like that any time soon. The question asked was about the coloration of the albinos.
I Have too say I am VERY VERY disappointed and a bit ticked at how you people responded too a simple question. It was very childish, it was a simple question.
Now one at a time,
Zane, thank you for the response, glad too see somebody out there a bit more grown up then the rest.
Invictus, You know NOTHING about me personally, and in no way are qualified bye reading what I own to tell me how experienced I am. Or weather or not I would be capable of caring safely for a cobra. I already stated the question was on the coloration of the albinos, not about me owning one. But you have no right too attack me, even if I were planning too purchase one. Question me maybe, but childish remarks about me being suicidal is ridicules, grow up a bit “dude”.
Trevor, Your are being ridicules, You first of all can calm down, I am not bringing any Hots into the province. If you are wondering Cobras provincially are no more illegal then any single reptile you or I own right now. They all technically need permits, which I don’t believe anybody in the province has because I tried acquiring one years ago and everywhere I looked said it not worth getting one. I believe not to long ago you were against the idea of me getting a permit for the reptiles I own because some things are better left alone, no need bringing attention to the fact that none of our pets are legal. The city of Fredericton If you are within its limits, has the same rules applied to all reptile species, no specifics for venomous snakes, I checked all these things years ago just because I am a curious person. As for you not agreeing with the keeping of hots you have a right to your own opinions, I personally would love to own but don’t because I am very aware that the hospitals do not carry anti venom, I have stated before in other threads that I would want to own a personal supply of anti venom if I were to own a hot species. So there is no needs for you to go calling everyone you can to and end up causing problems, because I am openly stating I am not looking for a cobra, I just find the species fascinating.
As for experience I have no experience handling hots, I have tried but cannot find anyone to learn from, this is why I do not own species, I have done tons of research, and study on venomous animals, and each species particular venoms, I have about 8 years of experience with serious reptile keeping and a few years before that with the odd gecko. No one out there has any right to judge me I believe I am completely capable and responsible enough to own hot species but do not simply because I would like too get hands on with an experienced keeper before I would do so. So please save the nonsence and suicide comments.
And as a side note, give me a bit of credit, if in the future I were to get some hands on experience and finally own hots of my own, I would NOT post it up for the world too see, there are to many people who are ignorant of reptiles online for me to put that sort of information out there for the world. I know better then too draw attention too myself like that.
Now if anybody has some useful information too share with me about different coloring of albino cobras please do. I still would love too know
Devon

Well Devon if I appeared to jump the gun a bit it's only because the idea of someone bringing a hot into the province makes me all tight in the chest.lol None of my coments were meant to be personal attacks at all so I hope I didn't offend to you too much. You do sound like you've done your homework.
So like I said it's nothing personal I just don't want to see hots in NB.
Cheers,
Trevor

Well, from what I have learned here are the most differences:
Albino - Pure white, Red eyes.
Im not sure of the coloration morphing with growing older, But I do now 66% het luestics can become too look like full bred luestics. Sorry, I noticed this isnt much info but i hope it will help some.

Ok I have an albino that is pumpkin orange in body and a Very red head. She is over a year and a half old and is getting more orange with age. My younger 4 month old is pumpkin orange and im hoping he stays that color.
I have seen Albinos from cream white to a lavender tint. Variations are typical. I know Tanith has a Male i really want to breed my female too as its colors combined with my gals might produce some very sexy babies.

Lostwithin you are right the color of a cobra seems to differ from a general standard like other snakes. I have seen albinos from the same clutch change to very pinkish red and some staying a vewitish color. I have also noticed some change happening over time by the time they r 2 years of age they appear to have their color till death. I am not sure as to why this happens or if u can predict color on them but in my experience completely white parents do make reddish offspring so when buying one good luck or buy an older specimen....the value in Canada is about $200.
Hope this helps
